Unlike the orange-crowned warbler that can easily hide its orange crown, the golden-crowned kinglet's golden crown is always on full display. This golden-crowned kinglet is catching gnats and no-see-ums in the wooded grove that acts like a little oasis for migrating songbirds in the open prairie habitat around here. After spending the summer in Canada's vast boreal forest, these hardy golden-crowned kinglets sometimes winter right here in Winneshiek County since they can survive temperatures to -40 F even though they are barely bigger than a hummingbird.

Meadow fritillaries are miniature members of the fritillary clan. Great spangled fritillaries are much larger and should start to show up on the prairie any day now. Black-eyed Susans are in full bloom on Chipera Prairie today.
The dog-day cicada comes out during the dog days of August - typically coinciding with a stretch of very hot and steamy summer weather here in Iowa. The dog days are so-called because Sirius - the Dog Star - appears in the eastern sky just before sunrise now in late summer and sky watchers in ancient times believed the bright light from Sirius amplified the light coming from the sun rising soon after, causing this seasonal searing heat wave. That does sound like a pretty convincing scientific explanation to me. By the way, the "song" of this dog-day cicada is a very loud high-pitched whine sounding like somebody sawing wood with a chain saw. Try sleeping with a hundred noisy cicadas calling from the treetops around your house now.
I forgot there was a bridge signal bridge here at the east end of Peosta siding. An empty IEI coal train has 3 geeps as they pull into the siding at Peosta. Peosta is located 13 miles west of Dubuque.

I think it is interesting how power gets put together on a big old railroad. Somehow, a pair of leasor units have been paired together for the Cedar River Local for the past 2 weeks out of Waterloo. It's pretty neat to see a couple of old ex-Soo Line SD60's paired back together again. Here, the girls sit at the roundhouse at Waterloo over the weekend. The Cedar River doesn't work over the weekend much, so the power will sit for a day or so unless needed on M338 for a kicker unit.
These Soo SD60's were in the 1st 21 units order (6000-6020), which were delivered between between August and October 1987. This bunch was returned leased, and some spent time on the INRD. Now, power short CN has them.

The definition of art has been a controversial topic for many years, and even Plato was against it !!!
He believed that art’s mimetic properties threatened the physical order of the tangible world. Plato feared artists because they could control their audience and ask questions that should only be asked with answers. In his ideal Utopia, Plato believed that art should not be taught, especially to the children of the Guardian Kings, who were the only ones allowed to ask questions.
The integration of artificial intelligence (A.I.) into the realm of art has sparked a debate regarding the capacity of A.I. to produce art.
A.I. FUNDAMENTALLY OPERATES AS A SYSTEM OF ALGORITHMS THAT CAN ANALYZE AND PROCESS DATA TO MIMIC HUMAN INTELLIGENCE.
As we navigate the evolving landscape of A.I. and art, it is crucial to remain open-minded, foster dialogue, and establish ethical frameworks that ensure the harmonious coexistence of human artistry and technological innovation.
With proper human integration, an individual can use A.I. to create works of art that mimic and serve as educational tools, just as Aristotle noted. Ultimately, the value of art, as with any technology, lies in the intention behind it, not just the process itself.”
