A month ago a good friend called me up to inform me that the Route 66 Car Show was currently taking place down the street from his home. Of course, I rearranged my plans and was there within an hour. I am a huge race and hotrod fan, having had a few of my own hotrods during my life, one of which he had built from the ground up. It was a great celebration of not just old cars but of that era, people walking around dressed like James Dean and I saw quite a few Marilyn Monroe's as well.
Jay, That's my buddy, is a hard core race car driver and I used to pit crew for him at the Irwindale race track on thursday nights for "Bracket Night" We have a lot of history (40years). At 14 and 15 we used to hotwire his dads 500+ HP Big block mustang and tear up the streets and neither one of us having a driver license. We used to drive a 350HP Chevy Camera to junior high school and even parked in the principle's parking spot a couple of times...... :))))))
This is the first composition that I am kinda proud of, because I had crouched there with my camera on the ground waiting for something interesting to come into the reflection. As I sat there listening to the two guys next to me haggling over the price of a bottle of water, and the people behind me admiring the 100% chrome hydraulics system in the bed of this beautiful truck and the old stone church in the background. I had plenty of interesting elements but I thought with all these cool outfits here somebody interesting is bound to walk by. So I waited and watched and waited and watched, when out of the corner of my eye this kid comes strutting down the sidewalk like a mini gangbanger or something, with his red hat turned to the side in defiance, walking the opposite direction right past the sign that says "Kids Zone" :) All of that is there in the reflection.
Now I was praying that one of the Marilyn's or James Deans would come by, but the kid worked out cool too and I like the floating head in the reflection. :)
Thank you for taking the time to take a look at my photos and as always, your views, comments, faves, and support are greatly appreciated!! Have a great day everyone :)
Partial view of the main entrance of the Olympic Stadium of Athens "Spyros Louis", the biggest sports stadium in Athens, Greece. It is a part of the Athens Olympic Sports Complex and is named after the first modern Olympic marathon gold medalist in 1896, Spyros Louis.
In the area of Marousi in Athens, the stadium was originally designed in 1980 and built in 1980–1982. It was completed in time to host the 1982 European Championships in Athletics. It was inaugurated by the President of Greece Konstantinos Karamanlis, on 8 September 1982.
It was extensively renovated in time for the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Paralympics, including a roof designed by Santiago Calatrava, and innovatively positioned with Enerpac hydraulics.
The Padre Tembleque Aqueduct was constructed during the first century of Spanish colonization between 1533 and 1570.
it stretches 45 kilometres (28 miles) long between the states of Mexico and Hidalgo, on the Central Mexican Plateau.
Initiated by the Franciscan friar, Padre Tembleque, and built with support from the local indigenous communities, this hydraulic system is an example of the exchange of influences between the European tradition of Roman hydraulics, and traditional Mesoamerican construction techniques including adobe.
On July 2015, the Padre Tembleque Aqueduct was declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dan Patch (aka "Patch")
September 15, 2004 - October 26, 2020
Patch was born in one of the out buildings at Continental Machines, a large factory in Savage, Minnesota. I worked there at the time, and a few of us monitored and cared for the feral litter of kittens.
I had a different kitten all picked out until the day we gave them away. That choice changed when I picked up this fuzzy little peanut boy and he just nestled down in my arms and purred.
That night, the little guy slept in the crook of my arm, and 16 years later, he was still sleeping there every night that I was home.
Another male cat that we had, Ringer, took him in as a kitten, snuggling with him, and keeping him clean (as Ringer's dad, Reebok, also did). We had to bottle-feed Patch for a couple of weeks. I'm sure if Ringer could have done that, too, he would have.
Patch was so laid back and affectionate, thanks to his "Uncle" Ringer. He carried on in our line of male caretaker cats, taking care of kittens, the other cats we had, and even our wiener dogs. Of course, he took good care of his mom, too.
He'd had an upper respiratory problem for years, but in the last few months it got progressively worse and worse. Late last weekend, the congestion had gotten to a point where he had difficulty breathing. I had to make the choice to do the unthinkable.
I still have a wiener dog and other cats right now. If it wasn't for them, I don't know how I'd get through this. Patch was my soulmate. My house feels so incomplete now.
RIP my Fuzzy Boy.
Side Bar: Why was his name Dan Patch? Continental Machines (where he was born) was right across the highway from the former site of the International Stock Food Company farm where M.W. Savage kept his world famous pacing horse, Dan Patch. This horse paced the mile in 1:55 in 1906. That time wasn't equaled until the 1920's and wasn't bettered until the almost 1960.

...the snow, that is. A blade-equipped vehicle works to clear the street in this panning shot taken during a storm a couple of weeks ago. The image was actually shot through a screened window, so it came out fairly well, considering.
This car is one of the great mysteries of my neighborhood. It's been parked in this spot for the two years I've lived here, and is barricaded on the north and south by two old sets of street car lines. I can't imagine how it ever got here, or how it will ever leave. Perhaps hydraulics are involved.

The ancient Shushtar Historical Hydraulic System demonstrates incredible engineering capabilities predating the Industrial Revolution by over a thousand years. Constructed in the 5th century CE under the Persian Sassanid Empire, this complex irrigation system was designed with weirs, dams, canals, tunnels, and watermills to harness the power of the Karun River. It provided water across the arid landscape for agriculture, industry, and human consumption. The system connected to an underground water supply via a spectacular cliffside waterfall to power watermills. Its network of channels and tunnels stretched for many kilometers, showcasing the advanced hydraulics achieved centuries before modern technology. UNESCO designated Shushtar a World Heritage Site, recognizing it as a masterpiece of creative genius demonstrating the sustainable use of natural resources in ancient times.

Jumping works not by muscles, but by hydraulic forces.
The leg spines become erect during the jump, a result of increased body pressure.
The zebra spider's jump is almost entirely due to the sudden straightening of the fourth pair of legs.
Before jumping, they glue a silk thread to the surface that they are jumping from so that if they miss the target, they can climb up the thread and try again (clearly seen here - even a "double rope" is used for safety)
Old, retired Caterpillar D7; this is a cable dozer setup that uses cable or wire rope to lift the dozer blade and gravity lowers the blade. This system was replaced many years ago by hydraulics.

lift platforms cranes parked in an urban spot. They totally looked like giraffes in an enclosure to me.
Found this particular Shrimping vessel fully adorned in very colorful accessories and rigging.
It appeared ready to head out, because in late Fall/ Early Winter when the waters of the South Louisiana marshes cool off.....it's on !
Like all others.....it's amazing how those captains can keep up with all the ropes, rigging, nets, hydraulics, pulleys, skimmers, coolers, etc.... But one might be surprised to see just how quickly the crew can swing/lower those booms, drop the nets, and start shrimping lickety-split.
Thank Y'all for takin' a look.
Have a Terrific Tuesday !
Larkinville, formerly known as The Hydraulics, is an area of Buffalo, New York located near downtown, South Buffalo and Canalside. Once an industrial neighborhood, it is now home to offices, shops, and a public gathering space called Larkin Square that regularly features food trucks, events, and concerts. The current form of the neighborhood came as a result of the gentrification of the former headquarters complex of the Larkin Soap Company, which includes the Larkin Terminal Warehouse, and other abandoned warehouses nearby.

One can feel the Falls before seeing it. The thunderous rush of cascading torrents makes the air tremble, and when it swings into sight there is an overwhelming sense that you are drowning even while on dry land.
Summer may not be the best time to visit Niagara Falls, compared to a visit in autumn (see my album: www.flickr.com/photos/awarah/albums/72157699241048872/), but it is still a sight to behold. No matter how many times I visit, the volume of water always takes my breath away.
In Kyiv-Mohyla Academy of those days they taught a wide variety of disciplines. Mathematics was a part of them and it included a bunch of subjects: algebra, geometry, optics, dioptrics, physics, hydrostatics, hydraulics, architecture, mechanics and mathematical chronology.
In the XVIIIth century it was Pier Brulion who taught mathematics in Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. He was the French who arrived in Kyiv with the purpose of teaching children French but turned out to be a talented math teacher. Unfortunately, we know very little about that teacher but we can say for sure that he did not lack creativity. Who else could display one of the study aids for mathematics in the courtyard of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and another one right on the central market-place of the city? That's right, in Kyiv there are two sundials designed by Pier Brulion: the second one adorns the pillars of the rotunda over the Fountain of Samson on Kontraktova Square.
