I even massacred one of these big blue IKEA bags in search of an interesting-looking texture, do you believe it? Well, these bags are sturdy, aren't they, and that small hole I clumsily cut into the blue fabric won't impair its carrying abilities. These bags are strong as Hulk, but not as green, and since the fabric's texture didn't look that interesting in close-up either, I continued my search, until this morning I noticed an old green, pretty battered clothes' peg that has long retired as a laundry helper and keeps the potato crisp (a guilty pleasure) bag closed so I won't eat them all at once ;) Not that I'd eat potato crisps for breakfast ;) This peg has plenty of texture, original texture in the form of the protruding rhombic pattern (for better grip), and acquired textures from a lifetime of being squeezed. This makes this little clothes' peg (that might as well be as old as me) a Hulk in its own right – and it's Hulk-green on top of that ;)

What you see is a pretty small part of the peg's grip, a 5x5 mm / 0,19x0,19 inch section. I've illuminated the clothes' peg from behind and photographed it with the cheap little 30 mm macro lens because that gives me more magnification (2.5x) than the regular 1:1 of my 60 mm macro lens. It's also a single image shot in High-res mode (so I would be able to crop out the patterned part and still have a big enough file). Processed in DXO PL6, Color Efex, Analog Efex (Film type Bolton 1), and Lightroom (clarity, contrast, colour adjustments).

I'm busy today and will catch up with you tonight! HMM, Everyone!

Lying forgotten and in a state of decay, this rotting hulk lies beside the waters she one graced - a forgotten memorial to Scottish fishing

A view of one of the more photogenic boat hulks at Dungeness. I was going to go for mono but I like the colour of the nets and the rope.

Hopefully a new angle on an old favourite of mine. The low sun was coming from the right direction to cast some fairly good light on the old hulk.

This image was taken at the Purton Hulks or Purton Ships Graveyard, where there are over 80 abandoned boats and ships deliberately beached beside the River Severn near Purton in Gloucestershire, England. This was originally done to reinforce the river banks, mostly in the 1950s and so the ships are now in a state of considerable decay, and quite interesting to photograph. Purton is now the largest ship graveyard in mainland Britain.

had to take this quickly as we got told off for taking photos..

..during low tide I had the possibility to get a closer relationship to those beautifully green haired rocks. I'm afraid you will see them from time to time :)

… this Halifax has seen better days…

On April 27th 1942, 11 Halifax bombers of No 35 Squadron flew out RAF Kinloss, Scotland, on a high risk mission to sink the German battleship Tirpitz in Norway, at the very limit of their operational range.

The mission was a failure. Hit several times by anti aircraft fire during its bombing run and with engines on fire, W1048, a brand new aircraft at the time, belly-landed on nearby frozen lake Hoklingen near Trondheim. Her crew managed to escape the aircraft and the lake, 5 out of 6 made it to neutral Sweden and later repatriation; the sixth - injured - member, Sgt Stevens, was captured by German forces.

12 hours later, W1048 sank to the bottom of the lake through the ice, was reported as missing in action and never heard of again for nearly 30 years.

In 1972, it was relocated, salvaged and repatriated to Britain as a training exercise by 71st Maintenance Unit, RAF. Because of damage sustained during salvage, full restoration was not an option, and it now ‘lays in state’ – partially restored – in the Bomber Hall of RAF Museum Hendon.

So I absolutely love the Hulk big-fig. It's very well designed and looks very Hulk-ish. The only problem I have with it is that it's too Hulkish. It's so different looking from a normal Lego figure that it feels out of place. Also it's a pain to photograph story builds with it. So, I've refrained from using it in my Hulk stories for that very reason. So, I've come up with a solution to that problem.

I give you - (drum role) - Slightly-bigger-fig Hulk. This figure is only about one stud bigger than a normal Lego figure and I like that. The arms are extended with the technique (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) Dylan (TheMooseFigs) came up with and the legs are extended by half of a tile piece place in between the legs and torso.

So, let me know what you think of this figure. :D

Where boats go to die/languish (iii)

The endless tidal marshes around Blakeney in Norfolk are dotted with the hulks of boats that have been left there to decay or winter. This one is in the decay category, I reckon.

These are the marshes where the young Horatio Nelson learned to sail as a wee lad, about five miles further along the coast. There is history on these shores.

he north-western beach is the sand/shingle/mud estuary Traeth Dulas (Dulas Beach); southeast of this is the tiny Traeth Bach (Small Beach) and the sandy Traeth Yr Ora (Beach of The Fortified Landing Place). The estuary running through Traeth Dulas is that of the Afon Goch (Red River). The Traeth Bach and Traeth Yr Ora at high tide are separated by a rock outcrop called Craig y Sais (The Saxon Rock). At low tide, however, it is possible to walk on the sand between the three beaches and also onto th beaches of Lligwy Bay to the south. Traeth Dulas is most affected by the tide, so much so that the most inland parts of the estuary are salt marshes. A walk is the circuit starting at Lligwy Bay, taking in Traeth Ora, the Pilot boat Pub and an option to reach the top of nearby Mynydd Bodafon.[1]
