Am in a housecleaning frenzy...if you want to join...come on over! Big weekend coming up on the 4th of July!
Even the critters need to clean house every once in awhile. Out with the old dirt and in with the new.
Whoops! I didn't realize this image was made public when I uploaded it. It's another image from my archive I discovered while doing some "housecleaning" of old files. I'd have to look up where I shot this, since I don't recall.

We are in the midst of a heat wave and my goodness, it is HOT!
When I'm in the car I love getting off pavement and on the dirt/gravel roads because that's often where I see the most interesting farms, old houses and fields of crops. While I was out other day it was obvious the stretch of hot, sunny weather has created a growth spurt for the corn and other commodities; cows were crowded together under trees trying to find some shade and horses were standing on the shady side of barns.
What also occurs on those dirt roads though is dust. The Tiger Lilies, Queen Anne's Lace, Asters, Bellflowers and Birdsfoot are blooming everywhere making the world look like nature's florist shop and woven throughout is the Crown Vetch creating pink clouds of colour but without much rain they're all getting dusty from the dirt that gets kicked up by passing cars. We need some rain to do some wildflower housecleaning.
When I found a patch that seemed to have escaped the dusty conditions I had a fine time snapping and clicking the shutter for a while until the heat made the air conditioning of the car too compelling. I just got the car back from the garage after some servicing and the air conditioner is now at full function and it's so cold that I swear I could withstand dental surgery without anesthetic. Being too cold is a nice problem to have during a heat wave.
It made me think of all those car trips we'd go on when I was a child and of course we didn't have an air conditioned car then. The windows would be wide open and we'd all be a hot mess by the time we'd get to our destination which was usually a campsite that required the work of setting up camp and blowing up air mattresses. No wonder we'd all make a bee-line for the beach once that was done.
I know I often 'wax nostalgic' about things of the past but there are some things I do not miss in the slightest and the lack of air conditioning is really high on the list.

In the last few weeks, Montana Rail Link has been doing some housecleaning before the BNSF takeover at the end of the year. Several locomotives were scrapped at Livingston, including EMD SD45 Nos. 346, 351 and 382—leaving only one SD45 still on the property—MRL No. 355. The venerable locomotive is currently being used on a work train on the east end of the railroad.
At the end of a day several years ago, MRL’s last SD45 leads the railroad’s westbound Laurel to Bozeman turn under an evening sky glowing with pink accents and is passing the east switch at Quebec, nosing into a gorgeous sunset at 9:14 p.m. on June 24, 2019.
“Meraki ( Greek) - when you do something with soul, creativity or love; putting a piece of yourself into what you do.”
Today was a Meraki moment when I realized it may be our last day of freezing temperatures for a while to try photographing frozen bubbles. So the planned housecleaning was put aside. I got lost in my photography! For Sliders Sunday, I used a preset filter in Lightroom to get the blue tones in the crystals of this bubble image I captured. Then I blended another image I took last week of the Maple seeds hanging on a snowy branch and put it inside the bubble. I do love the magic of winter.
A sure sign of spring! While out yesterday, saw mom sitting on the nest. Interesting the discarded eggshell on the outside of the nest? I hope she was just housecleaning after a successful hatch????????????????

Imagine that liquid were Kryptonite. And just one single, tiny droplet would do your entire housecleaning for you in the blink of an eye... wash the dishes, clean the windows, swipe'n'wipe the floors, dust the shelves, do the laundry... you name it, "Kryptie" does it. If only... *sigh* ;-) In reality this is bland, colourless dish detergent which is contained, together with the dosing pump, in a Hulk-green, translucent, sturdy, refillable soap dispenser. Shook it a little to get some nice bubbles, placed the dispenser on a clamp (on a glass table) so it would be slightly raised (and wouldn't roll away all the time as well), lit it from below, set the in-camera ratio to 1:1 to make the positioning / composing as a square-format image, with the visible part of the small tube placed exactly in the corners, easier, and shot it from straight above, lens pointing down, camera mounted safely, snugly and hassle-free on my macro-tripod. Processed in Luminar 3, not 4. I have decided to keep Luminar 3 next to 4, because as much as I like the "Sky Replacement" feature (although I've only ever used it once so far), I really don't like the new, "over-simplified" user interface at all. Version 3's UI is logical, well laid-out, self-explanatory, easy to use, while in version 4... it seems that by trying to make things super easy they actually made everything more complicated ;-)
HMM, and a Happy New Year Everyone!
Wunschdenken
Entwickelt in Luminar 3.
Look closely. This shot depicts the body of a pileated woodpecker parent going into the nest cavity for housecleaning and the head of a chick sticking out. Must have been a squeeze as space was at a premium.

Had the DM&IR gotten rid of the Lakefront Line in the 1980's, perhaps this would have been a sight that was seen. With a group of executives due to arrive later that week, it was housecleaning time in Two Harbors. That meant 3 old pieces of equipment needed to go. We had about a days worth of notice, but we ran up to Two Harbors and saved it all. It was an interesting trip back as the journal boxes hadn't been lubed in 20+ years, but everything made it back safely. The caboose isn't actually DM&IR, it is a former BN caboose painted for the Missabe. It was cool seeing a truly Missabe consist on home rails!
Housecleaning...
My alternate title was-
"Nine lives, ten rockets…do the math."
But I didn't want to make anyone cry...
EDIT- Ya know what? Let 'em cry! I'm changin' it.
So now, the original title, which is now the alternate, was-
"Super Kitty Action Playtime GO!"
Yeah, not sure what I was thinking there...
Housecleaning is very hard work!😹

This is Pickles' version of helping me with the housecleaning. The entertainment value provided keeps me from being even slightly upset. With a face that sweet I can't stay mad at her. I may get her professional training to assist tho.
lord, are you busy?
what is it, archangel?
just doing some housecleaning.
our house needs cleaning?
well, yes, lord, in fact it does. a bit.
but I built it to be perfect forever.
yes, lord, and it is, but a little maintenance can't hurt.
well, if that suits you, fine by me.
you didn't happen to see the paint anywhere, did you lord?
the what?
the cans of paint. it needs a touch-up.
a touch-up? with paint? have you lost it? I built this house with gold and precious stones. no paint.
yes, well, I didn't want to totally blow the budget.
no, I suppose not.
there was that unfortunate expenditure on arcturus.
yes, don't remind me.
it's not your fault, lord. the moon was too big.
created quite a mess when it fell out of orbit though.
these things happen, lord.
tell that to the arcturans who managed to survive.
well, they still have the other 5 other moons to venerate.
true. no paint, archangel. forget about it.
I understand, lord. how do you feel about. . . wallpaper?
At the same time when Uncles started their project, the weather changed warmer and little by little, over the days, downright boiling. Aunties’ original idea of large-scale housecleaning dried up at the same rate as the temperature rose: instead of cleaning they ended up spending hottest hours of the day on the shady side of the porch, and as a bonus they had a visual contact to Uncles’ building site, which wasn't a bad thing at all.
The next twelve days followed pretty much the same pattern: the Uncles disappeared into the hoard of the tent early in the morning and sounds of knocking and banging was heard from there throughout the day. The Aunts sat down on the terrace with their refreshments to watch the events whenever the sun turned into the west side of the house and the porch stayed in the shade.
-This is actually quite entertaining, Manna had to admit whenever she joined the Aunties in a shady terrace.
This Fall weather has been amazingly nice, but before things start getting cold, I decided to do some housecleaning before I have to close everything up for the winter.
Though not as sharp as I would like, I was happy to get the Northern Flicker in flight carrying a fecal sac from the nest.
007/365 - January 7th, 2010
Behind me lies the most extended and most relaxing Christmas break I can ever remember.
Alas, after 19 peaceful days at home I had to be back at work today. And, even worse, it was Thursday, which means my weekly housecleaning was due.
Pinkie did her best to help me with the latter (she accompanied me to work as well, but was too shy to come out of my bag). Of course she was thrilled to see my pink floor bucket. She said she can't imagine a better color for a bucket, and it sure makes housecleaning a pleasant task (sorry Pinkie ... I'm afraid I can't quite agree).
Oh, just in case you wonder where Chicken Kid is... he went sledding with Nils and Elisa-Bettina today. They don't make particularly good hot chocolate, but at least they acknowledge his status as the captain and commander of the crew (in other words: he gives the orders, they push).

If you look closely at the left leg of this eagle that I photographed, you can see it is banded. I would love to know the story behind the banding and where it happened.
It is difficult to see a band like this when you are photographing in the field and usually I only see them when I get the photo on my monitor. But on banded ones that are close-by it would probably be possible to get a clear shot of the band itself which would enable the bird to be identified.
For eagles that are banded, I learned this: receive ℎ 9
. , , ℎ , ℎ ℎ
ℎ .
This eagle is doing a little housecleaning as he was cleaning off his beak on the branch. They often do this after eating.

While roaming around the railyard in Milpitas, California, I saw a dumpster marked for "Metal Only". Naturally, I had to go check it out.

So, hard to believe, but I woke up this morning to a saturated yard with raindrops still lightly falling. I decided a good day to clean the house, but I did venture out early with my coffee cup to see what was going on in the front yard.
I'm pretty sure I know what the ladybugs are doing, and it's NOT eating aphids. Then there's the voyeur mantis. I thought for sure the mantis was going to snatch a ladybug -- what do I know? It moved on, and so did one of the ladybugs.
The host plant here is one of my precious milkweed, the ones that were lush a few months ago, with Monarch butterflies and caterpillars everywhere. Not today. The plants have been completely decimated. I tried a couple different approaches to avoid insecticides: I got a cup of live ladybugs who mostly flew away. Then I tried a product, a small vial full of stuff that would attract them. They did come, but they're by no means keeping up with the aphid infestation. Possibly a grasshopper or two in there as well, besides the mantis. The few Monarch caterpillars look famished, unhealthy. I'm probably just going to hack the plants back tomorrow and see if they can renew themselves - they're certainly not contributing to the Monarch population.
Needless to say, the housecleaning got delayed.
Last week for the theme, "A pile of things," I photographed this chair with a bunch of knitwear we habitually dropped in it. flic.kr/p/2oaCfuw
Here we are again with the same chair, emptier since the last round of housecleaning. I knitted the afghan between 2010 and 2016 using the Log Cabin Square, a free pattern by Sarah Bradberry available on Ravelry, because I like quilts, both traditional and the arty kind. It lives in this chair, a vintage rocker Danny bought at Aberfoyle Antique Market a few years ago.

Margaret Falls in Salmon Arms through a fisheye lens. The bottom reveals the famous cave. I did ask my wife to climb up the falls and pose inside the cave since she had her water shoes on anyway but I received no indication of any willingness to mount the slippery rocks for Flickr prize shot. Alas the cave remains unoccupied. I did manage to clean up some of the debris that cluttered the falls, trees, branches, bodies etc so the fall do look pristine. If only i could do my housecleaning that easily.
Created with fd's Flickr Toys. I'm going to take this weekend off from Flickr. I'm going to catch up on my housecleaning, answer my emails that have been piling up, take a few walks, read a good book, and bake Jake the cake I've been promising him for so long. I'll see you all again on Monday. Have a great weekend, and feel free to fave as many of my pictures as you can while I'm gone. I'll miss y'all!
CC Bonus Challenge: Chores
Found while doing some cleaning in the kitchen, these 20+ year old seed packets were in the bottom of a drawer. As an experiment I will try to grow seeds from 2 or 3 packets. Have any of you gardeners had any luck with such old seeds?
Been away for a while, but I’m back and attempting to continue my housecleaning. This one dates back to Brickworld 2009…sheesh!
It’s part of my Csek theme which is a sub-theme of my Dawn Forge theme and blah, blah, blah…
For those who care it’s called a Titan, and is the largest of the Csek. So far, anyway…;-)
For the Monday Challenge group. This week's challenge was to go back into your archives just this ONCE and find a picture that you have overlooked! One that you NEVER worked with or posted but that you can find new potential in. I've been moving my pictures from my computer's hard drive (which is full) to a portable hard drive for pictures only. In the process I've come across more than a few pics that fit this description. I've also deleted lots! A tedious but necessary housecleaning project.
After the hard climb through the hills to Highfield, the radiator intakes needed a little attention. While waiting for CSX to show up with their interchange traffic, the crew of the UBHF did a little housecleaning on Heritage GP38-3 2060.
MMID Pride, indeed.
Personally, I preferred last year's Minion Mash, but they wanted to do it all themselves this year. Pick out their own Halloween costumes, decorations, staging and lighting.
Anybody who knows minions knows you will never win an argument with them.
So, I said ok, here's the digital closet, take whatever you want.
So they did...and threw the rest on the floor.
Enjoy your weekend, I'm going to be doing housecleaning.
Happy Shocktober.
June 11th, 2015 - Geneva Switzerland
So my sabbatical has finally started. Since it's been a while since I went out with the sole objective of taking street photographs, I decided to ease myself into it, particularly as I need to get used to using the Fujifilm X100 to replace my much regretted Leica M9 in a street context. Yesterday was a glorious day in Geneva, so even though it was a weekday, some of the beautiful people were out on display. This was probably my best shot of the day.
Over the next few days I'm going to start getting my act together - loading two or three photographs from my Japan trip in May, and finally carrying out the housecleaning of my Flickr stream I've been threatening for so long. And then I'll start planning what I'm going to do over the next 12 weeks...
Going back to this shot of a Little Blue Heron but with different processing than before. Even though this version is grainier than the image posted recently, I believe I prefer this simpler capture.
Well, enough of the housecleaning and second thoughts. Moving on.

I did some housecleaning over the weekend and had to use the vacuum monsta. Beibei hid in the dark kitchen, away from the noise and hot air. He is still very apprehensive of this machine.
I pushed the ISO to 1600 to use f/4 with a shutter speed of 1/100s. It is quite amazing to do this instead of using a prime lens at say, f/1.8 that results in too shallow a depth of field. The image is also very clean without much noise.
[#114 on Explore. Thank you my dear friends!]
I was just ready to quit shooting as the sunset colors all faded, when suddenly things lit up with the pink afterglow so sweetly... a short break from housecleaning to head a block through the woods to the bluff and capture this...

A few of my backyard macros.. Such pretty, those flowers, don't you think?
First day of cooler temperatures for over a week, and it supposed to be much hotter soon, so I'm off to do some baking and housecleaning, so that I can survive the next week in the constant battle of laziness and aversion to dust and what-not... Until tomorrow!
P.S. No idea, what these are, but they are gorgeous!
P.P.S. I've done nothing to enhance the color of this flower. They are this blue. Isn't it wonderful?!
