Both bumblebees are Common Carder Bee (Bombus pascuorum), I think. The feeding behaviour of each individual on Salvia flowers however was consistently distinctive when following them flying from flower to flower. Taken in the garden. Bath, BANES, England, UK

I love the orange veins, the white dots and dashes on the wings of this tiger butterfly. And the twisting, curling filaments of this glorious red flower, nothing fussy or stuffy but a common median plant here in South Florida.

Tithoria are large butterflies which fly in sunny glades where they are easily confused with Heliconius such as ismenius, numata or hecale. The easiest way to distinguish Tithorea from their mimics is to examine the antennae. Tithorea antennae are gradually tapered, cream colored and drooping.

Tithorea harmonia is one of the most common and widespread of the toxic "tiger" species found from Mexico to the southern Amazon. There are 26 named subspecies.

This picture was taken yesterday November 6. We currently have between 40-50 hummingbirds visiting our feeders. The making of sugar mix is non stop in this house. Thankfully the still blooming "Sage Hot Lips" provide a bit of food source alternative to these Hummingbirds tired of my cooking :) It is quite an amazing plant, I am surprised to see how well this little bush is still standing as of November 6 after all the rain we have had and the several cold snaps of the last couple of weeks. Here is a little bit of info about the plant for those interested.

So many memories....

Fungi in the genus Calostoma have enclosed spore-bearing structures. They resemble round puffballs with raised, brightly-colored spore openings (osteoles). The common name given to some species, "prettymouth" or "hot lips", alludes to the brightly-coloured raised openings. Kalos means 'beautiful' in Greek and stoma means 'mouth'. Once open, every raindrop hitting the 'ball' will then release a visible puff of spores, hence the name puffballs. In New Zealand Calostoma rodwayi is found only in beech forest.

She came around the Hotlips Salvia at just the minimum distance away that I could focus on her. She battles all day long with two other Anna's and a Rufous to keep nectar rights on this bush. It appears exhausting to me.

Here are the upper wings in full view! Deep blue with white bands that have "bites" out of the top and bottom. Nothing there would lead you to expect the red dart-like markings on the underside! Butterflies are wonderful examples of design! And I love the white wing edges too.
