in september 1968, the royal academy in london, england, hosted a remarkable "50 years of bauhaus" exhibition. this extraordinary and unique german design and art school flourished between 1919 and 1933, but its influence is still felt today – even unknowingly by people who have never heard of it.

the bauhaus has touched on everything in life – architecture, art, furniture, fittings, typography, habidashery, photography and much more.

and by the way, the 363-page london book/catalogue (now very much a rarity) contains not a single capital letter! this is the cover, and more is here.

Host plant for desert black swallowtail, Papilio polyxenes coloro. It's counterpart in the eastern US, Papilio polyxenes asterius, feeds mainly on plants in the carrot family - parsley, dill, and relatives. Even their caterpillars look different. Yet recent DNA work has shown they are nearly identical genetically!

She is Mrs. Yoshi.

Mr and Mrs Yoshi were our hosts in Karuizawa 軽井沢, a quiet suburb about 1hour train ride from Tokyo. We stayed at their home which the Yoshi have converted their 2 storey house into a little guesthouse which have 8 or 9 guest rooms and a shared living room. Yoshi's English is very good and if you happen to find yourself in Karuizawa, book yourself a room at Hotel Ease.

Please go for Black

I went to a party hosted by Yahoo for flickr members last night. It was held at the Fancouver pavilion in Yaletown.

I got to meet several people I had yet to see in person. Such as Yume, Jawdoc and wife, Losy, Bigbean, Ariane, Yumiang, gdraskoy,Avatara and a few others that I can't remember all their names.

They had schwag for us too. Free drinks of beer or wine and some awesome food, like lobster, squid, chicken wings and other yummy foods. They gave us these neat little lens cloths that hang on your camera strap, pins, t-shirts and even free memberships.

I went there with DeniseJC and Juttamk.
