On our last journey out to Hawaiian Islands, on departure from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport from island of O’ahu to the big Island Hawaii, we took off in an easterly bound direction and I was able to capture some images of Diamond Head Crater. It’s scale from the air compared to Waikiki Beach immediately west of it and Honolulu next to that show how immense the volcanic crater is. As I had posted earlier images taken from the rim, my damsel’s sweet daughter took us on what was a strenuous hike up to the rim from the bottom, as it is a state park referred to as the Diamond Head State Monument. While in Hawaii, I used to sit and drink my coffee on the balcony every morning and I always liked how the sunrise shined upon the Tapa Tower.

A battery or similar structure near the summit of Diamond Head Crater just on the outskirts of Honolulu on the island of Oahu Hawai’i where once before current defense systems was manned by the IS military as it served as a point of defense for Hawai’i’s capital Honolulu. The ascent of Diamond Head was no small feat for me, though my damsel and her sweet daughter had a much easier time of the challenging switchbacks. Now a state park, vestiges of the military presence abound, like a 200 foot narrow tunnel that must be traversed to reach the summit of Diamond Head. The water in Honolulu, Hawaii, is incredibly clear and blue. When I looked down in the water from the seawall, there were dozens of very colorful tropical fish swimming around. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good angle for a photo. I did manage to get a pretty good angle for the harbor though.
Built in 1961, this modernist high-rise apartment building was designed by Wimberly & Cook. The building features side facades with large expanses of blank concrete at the ends, with a geometric hexagonal concrete screen wall divided into three segments in the center, with the facade facing Kalakaua Avenue featuring a tall rectangular concrete “frame” running from the second floor up to the roof, within which are staggered balconies, screen walls at the second floor, large windows, and doors in pairs on each floor, with the facade facing the ocean featuring balconies extending the entire width of the building. The building is one of several large residential buildings constructed at the base of Diamond Head between the late 1950s and late 1960s, which dramatically altered the appearance of this area of Honolulu.
Just a few steps from the beach, this marina is my preferred location; it's more peaceful and less crowded. When dusk falls, all is tempered in Honolulu.
