This lovely arched walkway is at the historic Guasti Plaza (located just north of the Ontario International Airport). At the plaza is the Guasti Mansion, the San Secondo d'Asti Catholic Church , Joseph Filippi Winery Tasting Room & Gift Shop, and the Homestyle Cafe.
Someone told me that it is best to use left over rice for fried rice, but I cooked the rice using less water in advance for 3 hours instead so that it would cool well. The result was just as good. - Jenny
One section of the meaty snow crab legs that I managed to break its shell and drawn out the meat completely successfully!
This was lunch for YH and I cooked it without egg, though a nutrient rich protein, affordable food and a contributor to a healthy diet, but he regards it as high in cholesterol.
Egg is an essential ingredient in fried rice that gives a nice flavour, colour and even adds texture to the dish if done correctly. Anyway, instead of the usual ingredients of pork, prawns and Chinese sausage, crabsticks, dried shrimps, long beans and spring onions were used. This plate of fried rice equally satisfied his palates…he made a favourable remark~
Fresh Chinese mushrooms are delicious when stir-fried. Remember though; always wash any variety of fresh mushrooms under running tap water to avoid sogginess.
Here is the soya bean puffs that I long to eat. This is a popular item from the soya product stall in our neighbourhood wet market. ER and I were early this morning and thus managed to buy some. Like I always did, cut them into smaller pieces and braised them with whole spices. It was served with a bed of fried broccoli and cucumber.
Do you know that blanching vegetables in boiling water will cause them lose much of the nutrients? Hence, stir-frying is a better method of cooking.

Florida has had some really cool beautiful weather in the Tampa Bay Area this week. I opened my back and front doors to get free low humidity air conditioning.
It was Friday night when I took this photo of my blessed White House in Apollo Beach when walking back with my dogs. The clear sky after heavy rains especially on a dark night made the “black & white” contrast even more stark. Just some TGIF wordplay and honest gratitude to God shared here, but mostly to show the cool iPhone 13 Pro Max camera capabilities in this no-edit no-filter straight out of camera (SOOC) photo.

This spinach is a healthy vegetable dish. The stir-frying was done with extra virgin olive oil & fish sauce.
Homemade pizza, just the way we want it, moist and cheesy and ingredients not dried out like the ones we ordered from pizza joints.
Although I have been looking at and fascinated by pizza pictures from a cookbook, a gift from my 3rd brother, as a young adult, I have never made any! Back then, the only experience I have was making steamed Chinese buns or baked buns with yeast.
My pizza making experience has the influence of a close Taiwanese friend who introduced fresh yeast to me and later an acquaintance who sold me a set of pots. The later demonstrated baking pizza using a thick base flat pan. Since then, I picked up the courage to make pizza with a recipe.

Stir-fried 1 tablespoon of chopped garlic in oil till fragrant. Add in 2 peeled, cored and sliced cucumbers and 1 stick of sliced celery and fry for a while. Add in the prepared sambal blachan according to your taste, a little salt and ajinomoto and swirl to coat the vegetables with the spicy sauce. Vegetables should remain al dente.
The spicy chilli paste recipe is here: Sambal blachan So far I like this one best. With the new chopper blender we acquired last November, the ground paste used in this dish was much finer.
It is a "revival" of old time favourite with reaffirmed information from an old friend. She asked her elder sister to confirm the way of cooking this dish. Thank you, MY :).
This dish is delicious! But, because of the considerable amount of fat and shrimps being high in cholesterol, be mindful to eat in moderation.
ER has been asking for this dish. He said his grandma used to cook this sambal of shrimp paste as a side dish. I am glad the result is good. This dish is spicy, aromatic and tasty with plain rice.

These are commercially mass produced steamed sponge cakes, another simple variety made from eggs, sugar and flour. Uniquely, soft drink like ice cream soda is used as a liquid in a recipe that I came across.
My home cooked version of tempura prawns: These prawns were coated with commercially produced tempura flour and deep-fried. They do not qualify as tempura prawns that are strictly cooked with guidelines as it was shown on TV. Anyway, they taste good!
