Once upon time, in a quiet village, stood a small bungalow, which suffered from neglect because its owners didn't have any money to maintain it properly. A sign "for sale" had been standing in the front garden for a very long time, but nobody was interested since the bungalow was of very modern design, which was a sharp contrast to the rest of the historic village. Day after day the wood rotted away and nature slowly took over the garden, until only a complete make-over could help the bungalow to survive...

With assistance from Grandma and Grandpa we have nearly finished pulling up the old wood.

All work dependant on a scissor lift was completed today!

So, as a note, the walls were fully textured behind the old cabinet. Good to know when we do work downstairs.

Stage 2 of a bathroom update...

View from D's office into the server closet. (Yes, we have a server closet in our home. We're just that dorky!)

Note the old door frame and molding. And icky carpet.

You can also see part of the bathroom.

The hall bathroom in our 1983 house needed a little facelift, and while it's still not ideal, it's miles better than it started out!

Packed and ready for for workman's arrival

Yeah, it's all easy until you get to the toilet.

Before. Note (in the reflection) all the chipping on the old sink.

View with shelves on the left. Note that the built-ins, at 24", are twice the depth of the old shelving rack.

Paint color: Firecracker

Having torn out the small bit of work I did in tiling the familyroom floor, a gob of money has been invested in 30 boxes of new tile. And here are the colors: there will be a random smattering of Eucalyptus (the kelly green) and Eternity (the sage) in a sea of Whispering Blue (the blue that whispers). I've got these samples on my kitchen floor's two discontinued tones to show how they all look together. In a day or two I'll start laying tile and resume the countdown.

about 80% done.

btw, the pale yellow/tan is the "real" color of the walls. All the areas that are blue or white, will be covered by either cabinets or tile.

Under the radiator. Before I cleaned. With a spoon (sadly, not kidding about that.) The gunk that originated in the puddle by the shower reached all the way to the opposite feet...

Not the bulbs, you clown. I replaced the thing that holds the lights. I am so awesome.

Where we took out the left-hand support. The doorway was basically two 2x4s with some plywood spacers between.

Environmentally unfriendly in some ways, but still energy saving.

After the first few rows of flooring was added.

Rugs are typically made up of a base of the pile, usually made of wool, sometimes containing shag or other low-pile fibers. The pile is traditionally made of natural wool, though nowadays, synthetic fibers including nylon, polyester, or polypropylene have also been used, since these fibers are more affordable than natural wool.

Adding stone to the porch wall on this older house accented the siding's fresh coat of paint!

McLendon moved their flagship store to this former Kmart in 2004.

After painting it was time to put it back together.

I used sharpie on an iron-on patch to indicate which side of the bed should be up when. These patches were adhered to the ends of the mattress. This way the mattress will be flipped once a month, alternating side-over-side and end-over-end, just like Martha says*. I, um, melted the fabric of the mattress a little while I was ironing on, so beware.

* (Well, she says every three months and our mattress place recommended once a month.)

I'm thrilled with how this turned out. It is a BIG improvement for the room.

The four windows on the left will be my office
