This is Tirta Empul Temple in Central Bali. It is an important temple complex and holy mountain spring, located in the village of Manukaya. The site serves as a legendary setting of a traditional tale about good versus evil. It is a national cultural heritage site. Tirta Empul, meaning ‘holy water spring,’ is actually the name of a water source located within the temple. The spring feeds various purification baths, pools and fish ponds surrounding the outer perimeter which all flow to the Tukad Pakerisan River.

Second Temple remodeled by King Herod. Scale 1/613. Measured in cubits (Approx). 1 stud = 10x10 cubits. Plate height = 3 to 5 steps. Custom prints on the Sanctuary.

Three years of research went into this using multiple and original sources. Experts contacted. This specific model follows the opinion of Rambam/Maimonides.

I am now traveling & give presentations with the larger model.

See videos of both models here: www.jbrick.com/holy-temple.html

The windows, starting at the left, show the parting of the red sea by Moses with his staff. This is followed by the receiving of the Commandments and the Torah at Mount Sinai. Then, the wanderings in the in the Sinai Desert. Finally, the establishment of the City Of Jerusalem.

These windows Include detailed elements in the history of the creation of the world, and the covenant with the people of Israel.

Some elements and symbols that I see are the tree of life in the garden of Eden, the life sustaining waters, and the flood waters, the Temple Menorah, and The Cedars of Lebanon used by Betzalel in building and decorating The Holy Temple... I see an eagle of war and a dove of peace...

I would love to learn glass blowing and also stained glass artistry.

The gold candelabra was lit daily in the Holy Temple. Seven wicks would burn only the purest of olive oil approved by the high priest. One or two drops of oil from each olive and the jar sealed with wax and the high priest's seal. It took 7 days to get enough oil to light the menorah for one day.

When the small Jewish army called the Macabees regained the Temple from the mighty Syrian Greeks, they could only find one of these oil jars untampered with. They deliberated on whether to wait or light the menorah immediately.

They chose to light it right way and to their surprise, it lasted for 8 days until they had enough new oil! Thus is miracle of Chanukah and the reason why it is celebrated for 8 days and nights.

The scale is approximately 1/35th scale and could be used in a Holy Temple or Tabernacle MOC. It would have had three stone steps and was about the same height as a person.

Microscale model of Jerusalem in the times of the Holy Temple

The second Temple was a wonder of the world. It was remodeled to such magnificence by King Herod standing for 420 years. This model is scaled to 613 and is the most accurate model to date. Years of research drawn from Rambam/Maimonides, the Talmud, Josephus, Mishna and other Temple experts. The interior as well as the depths are highly detailed and easily exposed by separable sections. It is measured by cubits and converted appropriately to LEGO elements.

“Gurbani bathing involves a different mindset, namely that of a Sikh, a learner, a seeker. A Sikh is an apprentice to the Guru and it is in the transmission of knowledge that the cleansing takes place".

“What is implied is that it is our minds that are fogged up and soiled and require a bathing (naavaṇ). Divine knowledge is the true cleanser which nourishes human life.”

About The Tenth of Teves - Why we fast tomorrow...

________________________________________

Congregation Chofetz Chayim Synagogue Newsletter

January 4, 2012

Dear Charles & Cecily,

Tomorrow, Thursday [January 5th] is a national Jewish fast day that has been observed by our people for nearly 2,500 years -- it is linked to the destruction of the Temple and the exile of our people from Israel.

Tenth of Teves on Thursday Jan. 5 2012

Fasting begins: 6:13 a.m. Fasting ends : 6:08 p.m.

Morning Services 6:45 a.m. Evening Services 5:00 p.m.

It is an "easy" fast to observe because with an early breakfast (before 6:13 a.m.) the only meal that is skipped is lunch. Please feel free to call me at (520) 747-7780 if you have any health related or other questions relating to the fast .

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the deep significance of the day I have included below an excerpt from the book, Gateway To Judaism" with the permission of the author Rabbi Mordechai Becher.

May we merit to see the rebuilding of the Temple in our day and may all mankind be blessed with peace.

Yours Sincerely,

Rabbi Israel Becker

The Siege of Jerusalem

The Babylonian empire first laid siege to Jerusalem on the 10th of Teves 423 B.C.E., cutting it off from the outside world. This not only laid the groundwork for the destruction of the holy Temple but also caused horrific suffering for the besieged population of Jerusalem, thousands of whom died from starvation and disease.

Another tragedy lies within this day, however, that is less obvious. Jerusalem is meant to be the source of inspiration to the world and the place from which Torah and the word of G-d reach out to everyone. A siege prevents supplies from entering the city, and it also prevents any communication from the city reaching the outside world.

Ever since Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, laid siege to Jerusalem, the voice of this holy city has been muted. It ceased to be the spiritual beacon for the world, it lost its role as the primary center of Torah study, and the" word of G-d " could no longer be heard coming forth from its gates.

Other voices now issued from Jerusalem--the sounds of the Crusaders, the Moslems and all her other conquerors and their cultures drown out the sounds of Judaism. Even though the physical siege ended with the destruction of the Temple, Jerusalem remains under a spiritual siege. We fast on the 10th of Teves because the glory of Jerusalem has the moral and spiritual center of the world has not been fully restored-it is as if the siege of the Babylonians still continues to this day.

Ezekiel The Prophet

Ezekiel, - also spelled Ezechiel, Hebrew Yeḥezqel Ha Navi, יחזקאל הנביא - flourished 6th century BCE, prophet-priest of ancient Israel and the subject and in part the author of an Old Testament book that bears his name. Ezekiel’s early oracles (from c. 592 BCE) in Jerusalem were pronouncements of violence and destruction; his later statements addressed the hopes of the Israelites exiled in Babylon. The faith of Ezekiel in the ultimate establishment of a new covenant between God and the people of Israel has had profound influence on the postexilic reconstruction and reorganization of Judaism.

Ezekiel’s ministry was conducted in Jerusalem and Babylon

He began to prophesy to the Jews in The Holy Land c. 592 BC, pronouncing God's judgment on a sinful nation. He witnessed the conquest of Jerusalem by Babylon and saw his fellow Israelites taken away into captivity. He offered a promise of Israel's restoration in his famous vision of a valley of dry bones that revive and assemble themselves. He envisaged a theocratic community revolving around a restored Temple in Jerusalem.

________

This is my comment: Ezekiel was so convinced that we would return from the Babylonian captivity that he bought real estate in Jerusalem before heading into exile.

Hanukkah celebrates religious freedom. We overcame a vastly superior Syriac Greek army. That in itself was a great miracle. If that had not happened, there would be no Judaism and no Christianity.

The legend is that after clearing out Greek idols from The Temple there was only enough sealed olive oil to for the eternal light to burn for one day. It lasted 8 days until new purified oil could be made. 😊

I came across this delightful, funny, and very kitschy display at Bed Bath And Beyond. I was there because I needed a new shower curtain rod and a hypo alergenic complete mattress cover.

This fast day on the ninth of the month of Av in the Hebrew calendar commemorates the two destructions of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Both calamities occurred on the same date.

The fast 2017 fast begins at Sunset on July 31st and extends to nightfall on August 1st.

The menorot, or menorah, is a seven branched candelabrum and has been a symbol of Judaism for almost 3000 years. It was used in the ancient Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Lit by olive oil in the Tabernacle and the Temple, the menorah is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish people. It is said to symbolize the burning bush as seen by Moses on Mount Horeb. This menorah belongs to the 'Sinagoga de Cordoba' (Synagogue of Cordoba) in Cordoba, Spain. The synagogue was built in 1315 and, today, is the only preserved synagogue in Andalucia after the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. It is one of only three synagogues left in Spain....the other two are in Toledo.

Taken in early 2000 during my business trip to Israel. The political climate was stable. People that I spoke to were ready and happy with the peace process. However, about 6 months later, the Second Intifada began. The year 2000 was not a good year for Israel and Palestine in terms of peace process.

I wanted to turn the man into a surrendering situatiuon. I was not trying to make a statement. It was just a clever photo taken while on vocation. Basically, a guy was praying and two Israeli soldiers were praying behind him. I thought that this would make a great image. I don't think people in Israel found this too interesting since the gesture and appearance of soldiers were their daily lives.

In Remembrance of Destruction

62 x 48 cm open-edition offset print, 2009

"In Remembrance of Destruction" is a print designed to be mounted on the wall according to the Jewish custom of leaving an unpainted patch in a new house, in remembrance of the destruction of the Holy Temple:

"Once the Temple was destroyed, the sages declared that we should never build a building that is completely plastered and rendered in the style of buildings of kings, rather one plasters his house, renders it with a coating, and leaves a space of one Ammah by one Ammah without coating." (Shulchan Aruch, Orach Chaim, 560:1)

The "unpainted" portion of the print measures exactly one Ammah by one Ammah (48 x 48 cm).
