The Austin-Healey 100 is a sports car that was built by Austin-Healey from 1953 until 1956.
Based on Austin A90 Atlantic mechanicals, it was developed by Donald Healey to be produced in-house by his small Healey car company in Warwick.
Healey had Tickford build a single Healey Hundred for the 1952 London Motor Show, and the design impressed Leonard Lord, managing director of Austin, who was looking for a replacement for the unsuccessful A90.
Body styling was by Gerry Coker, the chassis was designed by Barry Bilbie with longitudinal members and cross bracing producing a comparatively stiff structure upon which to mount the body, innovatively welding the front bulkhead to the frame for additional strength. In order to keep the overall vehicle height low the rear axle was underslung, the chassis frame passing under the rear axle assembly.
Lord struck a deal with Healey to build it in quantity; bodies made by Jensen Motors were given Austin mechanical components at Austin's Longbridge plant. The car was renamed the Austin-Healey 100.
The "100" was named by Healey for the car's ability to reach 100 mph (160 km/h); its successor, the better known Austin-Healey 3000, was named for the almost 3000 cc displacement of its engine.
Apart from the first twenty cars, production Austin-Healey 100s were finished at Austin's Longbridge plant alongside the A90 and based on fully trimmed and painted body/chassis units produced by Jensen in West Bromwich—in an arrangement the two companies previously had explored with the Austin A40 Sports. 14,634 Austin-Healey 100s were produced.
The 100 was the first of three models later called the Big Healeys to distinguish them from the much smaller Austin-Healey Sprite. The Big Healeys are often referred to by their three-character model designators rather than by their models, as the model names do not reflect the mechanical differences and similarities well.
A high-performance 100M model was introduced in 1955 with larger carburettors, a cold air box to increase engine air flow, high-lift camshaft and 8.1:1 compression pistons. It produced 110 bhp (82 kW) at 4500 rpm. The front suspension was stiffened and the bonnet gained louvres, along with a bonnet belt. Approximately 70% of 100Ms were finished with a two-tone paint scheme, including one White over Red and another in Black over Pink for display at the 1955 London Motor Show. In all, 640 100Ms were built by the factory.
The 100M components (including the high compression pistons) were also available as the Le Mans Engine Modification Kit, which could be installed in either a BN1 or BN2 with the engine in situ, improving the power output to approximately 100 bhp (75 kW) at 4500 rpm. The kit could be ordered from BMC, allowing private owners to make their own modifications.
There are several categories of cars to distinguish between the factory produced cars and others: The early 100's retrofitted with the "Le Mans" kit, either by Donald Healey, an Austin Healey dealer, or owners; The 640 factory-built "Le Mans" cars which were named 100 M; and Cars that have been converted to "Le Mans" specifications in more recent years.
Only the factory-registered chassis identification numbers distinguish the actual factory built originals from others.

Launched to replace the Mecedes SLR McLaren, the SLS was unveiled at the 2009 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show.
Going on sale in Europe from mid 2010 and in the USA from mid 2011.
The first Mercedes car designed in house by AMG, the design is the work of Gorden Wagener like the McLaren it has a long bonnet and a passenger compartment near rear axle and most notably gull wing doors that swing open upwards on gas struts.
The SLS is powered by a 6.2 ltr V8 DOHC engine with an output of 563bhp, the standard transmission is a AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven speed dual clutch semi-automatic transmission through a lightweight carbon fibre driveshaft in a transaxle arrangement with selectable driving modes.
The SLS AMG Black Edition was unveiled at the 2012 LA Autoshow with a market launch 2013 the SLS AMG Black Series is a high-performance variant of the SLS AMG Coupé inspired by the SLS AMG GT3. Changes from the SLS AMG include increased engine power to 631 PS (464 kW; 622 hp), decreased torque, engine rev limited increased to 8000rpm., a revised valvetrain modified camshafts, adapted cam geometry and optimised bucket tappets with a special coating otherwise exclusive to Mercedes racing cars. Air intake ducts are modified This results in an acceleration time from 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 196mph. The Black Series is 70 kg (154 lb) lighter than the standard model with more use of carbon fibre in body panels, mechanical components, and the space frame. Further, a switch from steel to titanium for the exhaust system reduces weight by 13 kg (29 lb). The use of lithium-ion battery reduces weight by 8 kg (18 lb). The AMG SpeedShift DCT 7-speed sports transmission is mouted a little lower to reduce the cars centre of gravity and is braced against the body by gas-filled struts in order to avoid stress cycles. The transmission also has a faster shift. Other highlights include electronically controlled AMG rear-axle differential lock, new AMG RIDE CONTROL performance suspension (tauter basic tuning and electronically controlled two-stage damping, a wider track, matte black with high-sheen AMG 10-spoke light-alloy wheels forged for extra strength, AMG ceramic disc brakes, re-calibrated power steering. The body features slightly flared wings adding 13mmm front width and 26mm at the rear, darkened headlights and surrounds on the rear lights, front apron and rear apron with diffuser along with side sill panels in Black Series-specific design (carbon fibre-reinforced plastic front splitter, carbon inserts in the side sills and the rear apron made of carbon fibre, enlarged air intakes with carbon-fibre flics), carbon-fibre bonnet with central air outlet
Optional AMG Aerodynamics package includes a fixed adjustable carbon-fibre rear aerofoil as installed on the SLS AMG GT3, rear aerofoil braced by aluminium elements on a special insert on the boot lid, additional carbon-fibre flics on the front apron.

In 2004 the CLK DTM was the most powerful production car Mercedes had built to that date. With 582 bhp and 800NM of torque, the top speed was electrically limited to 200mph while 0-62 takes 3.8seconds. Both exterior and interior features carbon fibre panels to reduce weight and a stripped interior. The suspension was modified and wider and special wider tyres allowed the DTM to corner 30% harder than the standard CLK55 AMG of the time.
A limited number were built to mark the successes in the DTM race series of 100 Coupes and 80 Cabriolets and available only in the European, with the Coupe built for the 2004 model year and the Convertible for 2006. The cars were built by the same team responsible for the race cars with the body mods and aerodynamic aids giving enormous grip when cornering.
Juan Pablo Montoya and Mika Hakkinen who both competed in the DTM owned Cabriolet versions and Kimi Raikonnen and Jensen Button each have a Coupe

The Messerschmitt Me-163 Komet, designed by Alexander Lippisch, was a German rocket-powered fighter aircraft. It is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational. Its design was revolutionary, and the Me-163 was capable of performance unrivalled at the time. German test pilot Heini Dittmar in early July 1944 reached 1,130 km/h, a flight airspeed record. Over 300 aircraft were built, but the Komet proved ineffective as a fighter and was responsible for the destruction of only about nine Allied aircraft (16 air victories for 10 losses, according to other sources.)
Work on the design started under the aegis of the Deutsche Forschungsanstalt für Segelflug (DFS) - the German Institute for the Study of sailplane flight. Their first design was a conversion of the earlier Lippisch Delta IV known as the DFS 39 and used purely as a glider testbed of the airframe. A larger follow-on version with a small propeller engine started as the DFS 194. The design included a number of features from its origins as a glider, notably a skid used for landings, which could be retracted into the aircraft's keel in flight. For takeoff, a pair of wheels, each mounted onto the ends of a specially designed cross-axle, were needed due to the weight of the fuel, but the wheels, forming a takeoff "dolly" under the landing skid, were released shortly after takeoff.
Two prototypes were followed by 30 Me-163 B-0 pre-production aircraft armed with two 20mm cannon and some 400 Me 163 B-1 production aircraft armed with two 30mm cannons, but which were otherwise similar to the B-0.
The performance of the Me-163 far exceeded that of contemporary piston engine fighters. At a speed of over 320 km/h the aircraft would take off, in a so-called "scharfen start" ("sharp start", with "start" being the German word for "take-off") from the ground, from its two-wheeled dolly. The aircraft would be kept at level flight at low altitude until the best climbing speed of around 676 km/h was reached, at which point it would jettison the dolly, pull up into a 70° angle of climb, heading upwards rapidly to a bomber's altitude. It could go higher if required, reaching 12,000m in an unheard-of three minutes. Once there, it would level off and quickly accelerate to speeds around 880 km/h or faster, which no Allied fighter could match. The usable Mach number was similar to that of the Me-262, but because of the high thrust-to-drag ratio, it was much easier for the pilot to lose track of the onset of severe compressibility and loss of control. A Mach warning system was installed as a result. The aircraft was remarkably agile and docile to fly at high speed. According to Rudolf Opitz, chief test pilot of the Me-163, it could "fly circles around any other fighter of its time".
In service, the Me-163 turned out to be difficult to use against enemy aircraft. Its tremendous speed and climb rate meant a target was reached and passed in a matter of seconds. Although the Me-163 was a stable gun platform, it required excellent marksmanship to bring down an enemy bomber. The Komet's two 30mm cannons had a relatively low muzzle velocity of 540 m/s, with the characteristic ballistic drop of such a weapon. The drop meant they were only accurate at short distance, and that it was almost impossible to hit a slow-moving bomber when the Komet was travelling very fast. Four or five hits were typically needed to down a B-17.
Five Me-163s were taken to the United States in 1945. An Me-163 B-1a, Werknummer (serial number) 191301, arrived at Freeman Field, Indiana, during mid-1945, and received the foreign equipment number FE-500. On 12 April 1946, it was flown aboard a cargo aircraft to the USAAF facility at Muroc dry lake in California for flight testing. Testing began on 3 May 1946 in the presence of Dr Alexander Lippisch and involved towing the unfuelled Komet behind a Boeing B-29 Superfortress to an altitude of 9,000–10,500m before it was released for a glide back to earth under the control of test pilot Major Gus Lundquist. Powered tests were planned, but not carried out after delamination of the aircraft's wooden wings was discovered. It was then stored at Norton AFB, CA. until 1954, when it was transferred to the Smithsonian Institution. The aircraft remained on display in an unrestored condition at the museum's Paul E. Garber Preservation, Restoration, and Storage Facility in Suitland, Maryland, until 1996, when it was lent to the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum in Pooler, GA., for restoration and display but has since been returned to the Smithsonian and is seen above on display unrestored at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F Udvar-Hazy Center near Chantilly, VA., in 2012.
