I had some fun with this one in photo shop. "Bobby" is a pony stallion that really draws you in, makes you look, and you can really see that in this photo. When you watch "Bobby" go, you have a hard time looking away.

It's unlikely the Ghanese highlife legend Ebo Taylor will visit my hometown Den Haag again, given the fact he's allready 79. Then again, he has more energy than many of my 30-something friends. :) His show on a sunday night was a blast.

Part of SOAS Concert Series (free event). The Music Department at the School of Oriental and African Studies puts on an annual series of concerts between October and May – covering the globe and not just the areas suggested by the institute’s name, www.soas.ac.uk/music/events/concerts/.

Lineup: Atongo Zimba (v/koliko/shekere), Phil Dawson (g) and gombe drum and kpanlogo drum players.
Atongo Zimba is from the Bolgatanga region in northern Ghana. He plays the koliko, a two string lute made from a calabash gourd (known as the koloko or molo or xalam in other parts of West Africa), and the shekere, a shaken percussion instruments made from a vine gourd. Zimba has played with the Pan African Orchestra and Osibisa, and opened for Fela Kuti. This band demonstrated his turn towards more traditional instrumentation. Other band members play the gombe (a large square frame drum) and the kpanlogo (a conga shaped drum).

Financial restraints in recent years have meant less visitors from abroad. Instead the festival demonstrates the amazing variety of musical styles to be found in London.

Lineup: Yaw Asumadu (v/djembe/kpanlogo), Rob Navratil (d), Pete Horsfall (trumpet), Andrew Wolf (tenor sax), Lekan Shobiyi (g), Matteo Grassi (g), Nim Sadot (bass g), Afla Sackey (congas).
Yaw Asumadu moved to London from Ghana in 1999, and more recently formed Ozi Ozaa with Rob Navratil.
