"Gljufrabui ("Canyon Dweller“) is a beautiful waterfall located at Hamragardar in South Iceland, close to its better known counterpart, Seljalandsfoss waterfall.

The 40 meter high Gljufrabui can be considered somewhat of a hidden gem. It is indeed partially hidden behind a huge cliff that lends much atmosphere to the scenery.

To enjoy a view of the fall you need to wade the Gljufura river into a narrow opening in the cliff or follow a steep path up the cliff. Both endevours are demanding so utmust caution is advised.

As mentioned, this waterfall is less known than its neigbour but as a result may provide for all the greater serenity, in addition to excellent scenery. " (from guidoiceland.is)

Stumbling upon this beautiful scene during our stroll felt like discovering a peaceful secret in the heart of the bustling city. This is the Fontaine des Tritons, a historic fountain nestled in the lovely Jardin Albert Ier. The statue of Triton, a mythological sea figure, stands as a silent guardian, while the surrounding pine trees and elegant buildings capture the timeless charm of Nice. It’s a quiet reminder that even in a city known for its vibrant energy, you can find a moment of beauty, where history and nature stand still.

Soaking up the sun and a bit of history in Nice. What a beautiful place to pause, breathe, and take it all in.

Sorry I am not able to post a new photo today. I am headed off the the botanical gardens so hopefully I can bring back some good shots.

A stunning landscape framing of a secluded cove. The natural rock formations create a peaceful, sheltered bay, offering a sense of a hidden gem or a private escape, away from crowded resort areas.

A small stretch of sandy beach is visible in the foreground, offering a tranquil and pristine coastal view.

The shallow water near the shore is remarkably transparent, revealing the sandy bottom and transitioning into a vibrant turquoise hue further out.

The cove is framed by towering, arid, and rocky cliffs made from fossilized corals and granite mountains, creating a dramatic contrast between the desert terrain and the vibrant blue sea.

The shoreline and the water's edge create natural leading lines that guide the viewer's eye from the foreground towards the open sea in the background.

The scene is bathed in bright sunlight, emphasizing the vivid colors of the water and the natural desert landscape.

The sun flare in the upper right adds a dynamic element and emphasizes the brightness of the scene. The harsh light creates strong shadows that highlight the texture and ruggedness of the rock formations.

A good depth of field keeps both the foreground rocks and the distant sea in relatively sharp focus, allowing the viewer to appreciate the details throughout the scene.

The image perfectly illustrates the natural serenity and beauty, characteristic of the majestic landscape found within Ras Muhammad National Park in Egypt.

Historische tuin Schoonoord

For me a small garden of Eden, a pearl hidden in the big city, you are really in nature there as it was many years ago and should be in more places now.

Historical Garden Schoonoord is a unique part of Rotterdam's green and ecological heritage. The garden contains a rich collection of flora and fauna. The former country estate was originally designed in the English landscape style. Due to its historical elements, unique location and special plants, Schoonoord has been designated as a protected national monument.

The huge Lebanon cedars and the Brown Beech from around 1860 are the eye-catchers of the garden. You enter the site with hundreds of plant species via the brick arch bridge with the 18th century entrance gate. You will walk past the lush pond, old venison trees, Gunnera plants, a trumpet tree, a wingnut and an American tulip tree. The garden is host to, among others, 8 bee colonies, Japanese carp, kingfishers and a tawny owl.

yes this is another waterfall, yes it is in the Great smoky mountains national park, yes it is a 3 exposure hdr, but do you know where it is in the GSMNP, extra credit to anyone that can name the location.

From the quiet garden of Saint John at Kaneo, the view over Lake Ohrid feels almost unreal. Here, behind an elegant wrought-iron gate crowned with an Orthodox cross, the deep blue water stretches endlessly toward the distant mountains. It is a place where silence seems to settle naturally — a peaceful corner where faith, nature, and history come together. The Church of Saint John at Kaneo, built in the 13th century and dedicated to Saint John the Theologian, stands on one of the most breathtaking spots in North Macedonia. Perched high above the lake, this small Byzantine church has become an enduring symbol of Ohrid. Yet beyond its famous silhouette, it is the atmosphere around it that leaves the deepest impression. This secluded garden terrace offers a more intimate side of Kaneo. The old stone walls, the shade of the trees, and the delicate shadows cast by the iron gate create a scene of quiet beauty. The ornate cross and floral patterns in the gate seem to frame not only the lake, but also the feeling of stillness that defines this place. Standing here, with the soft light falling across the stones and the water below, it feels as if time slows down. The sounds of the world fade, leaving only the lake, the breeze, and the sense of timeless peace that has drawn visitors here for centuries.

From the garden of Saint John at Kaneo — where faith, silence, and the endless blue of Lake Ohrid meet.

I was so excited to find this anonymous ally with those two staircases in the courtyard. It is worth clicking "L" for optimal viewing conditions (did you noticed the bike?) I hope you can

I have been exploring the secrets of the heather or fynbos as we call it (meaning fine-leaved plants). It is a small belt of natural shrubland or heathland vegetation located on the Cape Peninsula of southern Africa. It is known for its amazing diversity and species that are unique to the region. I am not a botanist and usually do not know the name of what I am looking at. All I know is that beauty can be found in the many details of life.

I've been wanting to go explore this off-trail waterfall for years and finally made it happen. The falls are relatively hidden in the Columbia River Gorge and require a short, but very steep scramble to be able to reach.

Looking at the gate, I felt it was a fantastic representation of the beautiful array of colours that India has to offer. India may be heavy in dust and pollution, but it also has wonderful gems hidden around every corner. Just need to keep your eyes open.

The old town of Ohrid unfolds here as a picturesque landscape of red rooftops, narrow streets, and green gardens, spread across the hillside above the lake. At the center of this view lies the remarkable Church of the Holy Mother of God – Perivlepta (St. Clement Church), subtly nestled among the houses and trees of the historic town. Right beside it rises a slender white bell tower, standing out above the greenery as a recognizable landmark in the skyline. Built in 1295 during the Byzantine Empire, the church is a fine example of medieval architecture in North Macedonia. Its refined combination of red brick and stone creates the characteristic Byzantine style that blends beautifully with its surroundings. Inside, the church holds one of the most important collections of medieval frescoes in the Balkans, painted by the renowned artists Michael and Eutychios. Their expressive and detailed work makes this site one of Ohrid’s artistic highlights. From this vantage point, you not only see the church itself, but also how it forms part of a larger whole—a town where history, architecture, and nature merge seamlessly. In the background, the waters of Lake Ohrid shimmer, while the surrounding hills and trees create a calm, almost timeless atmosphere. Together with the rest of the old town, this site is part of the UNESCO World Heritage of Ohrid, celebrated for its unique blend of religious history, Byzantine architecture, and natural beauty.

High above the deep blue waters of Lake Ohrid, where the horizon seems to dissolve into the sky, stands the beautiful Church of Saint John at Kaneo. Perched on a rocky cliff, this small Byzantine church feels almost suspended between land and water — a place where silence and history meet. Built in the 13th century, the church is dedicated to Saint John the Theologian. Its distinctive architecture, with a combination of stone and red brick, reflects the refined Byzantine style that blends perfectly with its natural surroundings. The shape of the building, crowned with a central dome, has become one of the most iconic images of North Macedonia. From this vantage point, the view is breathtaking. The calm waters of the lake stretch endlessly into the distance, while the mountains on the horizon fade into soft blue tones. Around the church, cypress trees rise quietly, framing the scene and adding to the feeling of timelessness. People gather here, not just to see the church, but to experience the atmosphere — a rare combination of nature, history, and stillness. It is a place where time slows down, where every detail, from the stones in the walls to the light on the water, tells a story. In moments like this, Ohrid reveals its true beauty: not loud or overwhelming, but calm, layered, and deeply rooted in history.

The Church of Saint John at Kaneo overlooking Lake Ohrid, one of the most iconic and peaceful views in North Macedonia.

The Treska River carves its way here like a quiet breath through the heart of the Matka Canyon. High above the water, the rock walls rise steep and layered, shaped by time and patience. Their shadows drift slowly across the blue-green ribbon below, as if the mountains themselves are watching while the river continues on its course. The water lies calm, almost untouched, held between steep slopes dressed in autumn tones. There is no sense of haste here, no noise — only the suggestion of movement, far beneath you. The canyon opens layer by layer, each bend revealing new depth, new silence. Beyond the Saint Nicholas Šiševski Monastery, it is worth walking on a little further. It is there that the most beautiful view of the gorge unfolds: the river sinking deeper between the rocks, the walls gradually pulling apart, and the landscape revealing its true scale. A place where you do not just look, but pause. This is a landscape that reminds you of proportions — how small we are, and how vast nature can be. And how the river, unwavering and timeless, binds everything together: rock, light, and memory.

Matka Canyon is located in North Macedonia, just west of Skopje, near the village of Gorna Matka. The Treska River winds calmly through the heart of Matka Canyon, where steep limestone walls, shifting shadows, and deep silence define the landscape.

Scaleber Force is a spectacular tiered waterfall tucked inside Scaleber Woods. Walking down into the gorge feels like stepping into a forgotten world, where the limestone cliffs are draped in emerald moss and the sound of crashing water echoes all around. It's the perfect spot to sit back, breathe in the fresh air, and just listen.

The way the light breaks through the canopy onto the upper tiers of Scaleber Force creates a natural spotlight on the falls, while the foreground remains beautifully moody and grounded.

[EN] The Nueva Carrara Lookout

The Nueva Carrara Lookout, located in the Maldonado department just a few minutes from Pan de Azúcar, is a panoramic viewpoint built over former marble and limestone quarries. From its platforms—some featuring glass floors and structures cantilevered over the edge—visitors can gaze upon a striking turquoise lake formed by water accumulated in the excavation, its vivid color created by the minerals in the stone.

The site seamlessly blends industrial history with the rolling landscape of the Sierras: marble from this area was used in the construction of Uruguay’s Legislative Palace and other landmark national buildings. Today, it serves as a free public lookout designed for safe sightseeing and photography. It is important to note that descending into the quarry or swimming is strictly prohibited, as the lake is extremely deep and located within a delicate geological environment.

Visiting Mahane Yehuda Market offers not only an opportunity to indulge in authentic Israeli cuisine and shop for fresh produce but also a chance to witness the vibrant spirit of Jerusalem's residents. It remains an essential landmark in the city, preserving its historical roots while embracing modern trends, making it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the heart of Jerusalem.

A Quiet Pond in the High Alps Just beyond Lac Niré, this small alpine pond rests quietly among boulders and steep slopes, reflecting the sky and stone in perfect stillness. Tucked into the glacial cirque of the Gordolasque Valley, it offers a moment of solitude and clarity—where water, rock, and light meet in silent harmony. A hidden corner of Mercantour, untouched and timeless.

Visited Linn Falls for the first time since the very start of my photography hobby many years ago. A true hidden gem and great place to enjoy especially in Autumn. Went along with my photography mate Iain Brooks and spent several hours here. changing light, compositions & enjoying a brew with view.

This is an enchanting, atmospheric shot that feels like a gateway into another world. The way the heavy stone arch frames the sun-dappled path ahead creates a beautiful sense of mystery and discovery. It’s a perfect example of nature reclaiming industrial history.

Walking through a doorway to the past. There is something so magical about these old railway bridges tucked away in the woods. One minute you’re in the shadows of the stone, and the next you’re stepping into a sun-drenched green tunnel. It feels like the start of a fairy tale adventure.

Tucked away deep within the woodland, Middle Black Clough Waterfall felt like a hidden world of moss, shadow and softly flowing water. The peaceful atmosphere and secluded setting made this one of the most magical waterfalls I've visited in the Peak District.

Thanks for the views, faves, and kind comments. They're always appreciated. Have a great Sunday and nice week ahead. 😊✨️🙏

I really cant help but take photos of Rattray Head Lighthouse, This one was a bit of challenge attempting a long exposure in extreme winds and in waterlogged sand, Tripod spikes out and tripod worked into the sand until it was steady...seems to have worked.

Whilst I was there the sky went through many moods and changes so I switched between techniques quite often. I was lucky get a few keepers from my trip.

Speirs Point is a hidden gem located on the South Arm of the Alouette River where it meets up and joins the tidal Pitt River.

Nestled along this rural waterway, you will find a small community of ultimately romantic looking stilt and float homes, including a variety of pleasure craft and boat housing.

Situated on River Dykes Trail that is made up of walking and hiking routes.

An scenic and idyllic location for canoeing and kayaking.

Schlossromantik im Novemberlicht

An off-trail waterfall located a short distance outside of Packwood, Washington.

While not a long trek, multiple stream crossings, boulder hopping, and scaling logs were required to get a closer look.

Gorges du Var – Mercantour’s Hidden Wild Deep within the Mercantour National Park, the Gorges du Var unveil a raw and powerful landscape sculpted by time. This long-exposure shot captures the silky rush of water as it carves through ancient rock layers, framed by steep cliffs and lush alpine vegetation. A dramatic meeting of geology and motion—where nature’s forces shape beauty in every curve and cascade.
