Macro Monday: #TheFirstLetterOfMySurname

K for Klimesch, K for Kätzchen.

The German term for catkin is Kätzchen [ˈkɛt͡sçən]. Something very straightforward and obvious for "The First Letter of My Surname". These "open" themes are always the most difficult. In a German household there are quite a few items starting with a "K" to be found, so in the end I simply chose the photo that had turned out best, even if it's definitely not the most original subject. Spring is around the corner (Did you hear that, Spring?!? Heeeeeellloooo! We are waiting for you!), but days are still stormy, rainy and grey, so I thought a little colour dash would help to increase the anticipation of sunnier, warmer days :-) And aren't catkins always so soft and fluffy :-)

Size of the frame: 4 cm / 1, 57 inches. Background is the back/dull side of a piece of glitter foamsheet. Captured with in-camera focus stacking, and processed with minor enhancements in Luminar 3 (small details) and ON1 Photo RAW 2019 (local adjustments on the stem and bud [HDR] and on the catkins [detail]).

K wie Klimesch, K wie Kätzchen ;-) Der Frühling steht schließlich vor der Tür (ob er das auch weiß?) und Kätzchen - hier sogar adelig "von der Weide" - sind mit die schönsten Frühlingsboten, so flauschig und hübsch. Nicht sehr originell, aber bei den vielen K-Möglichkeiten lief es am Ende schlicht auf das beste Foto von vielen hinaus.

Als Frühlingsfarbklecks diente die matte Rückseite einer Glitzermoosgummiplatte. Aufgenommen mit der Kamera-eigenen Focus-Stacking-Funktion und mit minimalen Detailverbesserungen in Luminar 3 und ON1 Photo RAW 2019 entwickelt.

It's not everyday that a helicopter lands in your front yard...

This Bell UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" saw service during the Vietnam War where it went down three times with no loss of life. It now contracts with a power company replacing utility poles in inaccessible areas.

Their calls are booming around the woods just now...nice to catch one at the Chestnut Walk at Dalziel Estate, Motherwell...just enough shutter speed.
