I'm pondering the intellect of the historic invaders of England. If you heard the thundering of advancing hoofbeats and managed to close and bar this massive door, would they realize that they could just sort of back off a little and walk around the archway?
Commissioned by BSW Heating in conjunction with Weedoo Media to make images for the new website. The images involved photographing many of the 50 strong staff and were made on a number of locations in Sussex.
I have added this one and other photos just to fill a little of my flickr bandwith which will expire within half an hour. so dont mind if you had seen these pictures before.
An oven which appears to be build for coal has once kept the flowers in the greenhouse warm, and the pipes run up, probably filled with hot water for gentle, exotic heat in this harsh climate.
The Old Heating Plant was the central steam heating plant. It produced steam heat that was piped through underground tunnels between the boardwalk and Ocean Avenue. The steam was used to heat the heating plant, the Casino, all of the boardwalk pavilions and Convention Hall, plus the pavilions north of Convention Hall up to 8th avenue.
The Art Deco style is that interesting combination of Moorish, Venetian and Egyptian that we can see through the architectural structures in Asbury Park.
Doug has been working on the opening of the vase, and now he's putting it in the "glory hole," which is basically a really hot furnace that keeps the glass hot. If it cools too quickly, the piece will break.

I met my wife here at Latigo Ranch in 1995. When, at the time, she was terminally diagnosed with liver cancer. To remove the tumor she had two-thirds of her liver removed and survived. We returned to work there the following summer of 1996. 16 years later it is still the same great pace and we were thrilled to share the experience with our two children. These photos are from our most recent return trip in 2012.
I also produced a short film about our story, called W R A N G L I N G life, you can see it on Vimeo.

Workhouse Heating Plant (no longer in operation). The plant was coal fired. "... a large complex building composed of vertical and horizontal masses that step in and out and up and down in both plan and elevation. The building occupies an area of approximately 70 by 80 feet, with a few small wings projecting further to the east west and south, and it rises to a height of over 50 feet, in the shadow of its round brick smokestack that rises to well over 100 feet. The tall sections of the building are clustered as tall, cubic forms, forming an imposing, symmetrical, west-facing façade". Building W-29.

a section of a solar-heat panel being built at the lycée as an instructional class project. If you're not familiar with how these work, water moves through the copper tubes, is passively heated by the sun, and moves from there to (usually) a hot storage tank.
I've let the lid slightly ajar for more airflow to make sure the charcoal catches nicely. Sometimes when you light so little, as opposed to a whole chimney full, it can be touch and go. That's a candy thermometer in the top vent and a couple of large binder clips, whose function will be revealed shortly.
