When I say that I moved back to England from Amsterdam, people ask me why.
Maybe they just don't appreciate just what they have at home. I guess they're used to the beauty of the landscape, the way the light plays across the hills and the sky is ever changing.
Most people assume that Amsterdam is warm like the south of France, but I like to point out that it's on the same latitude as Birmingham, which is not exactly known for balmy temperatures. Though, true, there are warm summer's days in the Dam. Some years there are even heatwaves. But even Birmingham has a heatwave now and then.
Much of the year it is decidedly chilly where I live. In winter, people snuggle into down jackets, thick socks and hiking boots. If it's really cold I’ll put on an extra fleece. If the temperature climbs above 15 deg C the hardy locals will take off their coats and pull on their shorts, but it's taken me 24 months to get used to the cold.
I might wait until the red hits 18 C before my shorts see the light of day, and I'll always take something to cover up, but when the sun comes out, I'm more like a local than I was when I first moved here.

Mit diesem aussergewöhnlichen kanadischen Ofen von Bullerjan wird die Veranda wohlig warm geheizt. Die Röhren blasen heisse Luft oben raus, die sie vorher kalt von unten angesaugt haben. Eine genial einfache Nutzung physikalischer Gesetze.
With this extraordinary Canadian oven (made by Bullerjan) the whole veranda is heated very comfortably. The tubes blow out heated air on top while they suck in cold air from the bottom. A simply but brilliant use of physical laws.

Steaming diesel? Winter special at NVR - steam one end and diesel the other with steam heating to carriages - it was a seriously ch-ch-chilly day and with the steam escaping under the carriages and the windows all steamed up (sorry for the pun!) it looked like they were cooking the passengers ;)

How to use:
1. DEPLETION: DO NOT open radiator cap when engine is hot. Open drain valve at the bottom of radiator (do not open by force to prevent valve damage). Dispose used radiator fluid in accordance with local regulations.
2. RINSING: Rinse radiator with PRIMO's RADIATOR FLUSH which will help clean the cooling system. Fill radiator with PRIMO's RADIATOR FLUSH and turn engine on with heater position in “high”. Let engine run until normal operation, then turn off engine and drain radiator content. Fill radiator with de-mineralized water* and turn on engine with heater in “high” position. Let engine run until normal operation is reached, then turn engine off and drain the radiator contents again.
3. FILL WITH RAD-COOL: Check your vehicle's manual to find out the cooling system's capacity. Fill radiator with the amount according to protection table. Do not fill more than maximum capacity.
*De-mineralized water is mostly free of particles and dissolved substances. Normal conductivity <0.2 μS / cm, sourced from drinking water or hard water that has undergone removal process of mineral content in water, commonly used as processing water in chemical processes as well as boiler feed water in power generation.
