The best SunSmart steps:
1 Slip on covering clothing. Choose clothing that covers as much skin as possible, for example, collared shirts with long sleeves...
2 Slop on SPF 30 (or higher) broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen...
3 Slap on a hat...
4 Seek shade...
5 Slide on some sunglasses...
Why Is Sun Protection Important?
We all need some sun exposure. When skin is exposed to the sun, our bodies make vitamin D, which helps the body absorb calcium for stronger, healthier bones. It only takes a little time in the sun for most people to get the vitamin D they need (and most vitamin D needs should be met with a healthy diet and/or supplements).
Too much unprotected exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin damage, eye damage, immune system suppression, and skin cancer. Even people in their twenties can develop skin cancer.
How Do Sunburns Happen?
The sun radiates light to the earth, and part of that light consists of invisible UV rays. When these rays reach the skin, they cause tanning, burning, and other skin damage.
UVA rays cause skin ageing and wrinkling and contribute to skin cancer, such as melanoma (the most dangerous form of skin cancer). UVA rays pass easily through the ozone layer, so they make up the majority of our sun exposure.
UVB rays are also dangerous, causing sunburns, cataracts (clouding of the eye lens), and effects on the immune system. They also contribute to skin cancer, and melanoma is thought to be associated with severe UVB sunburns before age 20.
UV rays react with a chemical called melanin that's found in skin. A sunburn develops when the amount of UV exposure is greater than what can be protected against by the skin's melanin. The risk of damage increases with the amount and intensity of exposure. A tan is itself a sign of skin damage and does not help protect the skin.

I have decided to start the New Year with ABC Diet which contains vitamins A, B, C, D and E.
ABC DEFinition:
A for Apple
B for Banana
C for Carrot Juice
The cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale) is a tropical evergreen tree that produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple. The cashews have a lower fat content than most other nuts, approximately 82% of their fat is unsaturated fatty acids, plus about 66% of this unsaturated fatty acid content are heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. Studies of diabetic patients show that monounsaturated fat, when added to a low-fat diet, can help to reduce high triglyceride levels.
The last of the this year's potato plants gave me this happy, smiling potato face.
And no... I didn't interfere with it. It is just as nature delivered it to me.
Here it is lying on a red nest of home grown tomatoes for a splash of colour.

And once again the Flickr auto-tagging is as useful and accurate as ever. This is a "people group shot" apparently.
No Calories here..........Calories the little sods that get in your wardrobe or closet and shrink your clothes.
After our walk, I discovered a scarlet gaura flower riding along on my dog's ear and thought to capture the moment.
Now that my other elderly dog has healed from surgery and has returned to his normal routine, Cody has been suddenly ill. It seemingly started with an encounter of a bad bag of dog food.
After looking at the blood work results the vet told me over two weeks ago that he was sure the dog had liver cancer and said he would go very rapidly. He thought the dog was bleeding internally and discouraged any diagnostics.
But a long time ago I had an old dog with confirmed liver cancer--who also wasn't expected to live--and I started cooking for him and he lived another three years, a normal life expectancy. So I've learned not to give up, unless the dog does.
A week ago I took Cody on a long distance trip to his former vet where he had a sonogram. No cancer was found anywhere! A second blood test revealed a 20% improvement since I began working with his nutrition.
He is simply old and in decline, the tainted food probably pushed him over the edge, but he still has a great interest in life right now. We will take each day at a time, enjoying our long walks and the beautiful spring flowers.
Being a good source of potassium, niacin, vitamin B6 and folate, apparently tomatoes are good for the heart!
I took this photo back in the autumn last year with tomatoes and oregano from the garden :-) but haven't posted it until now. Part of me is thinking maybe I should have removed the green tops so the heart was only red but I wanted it to be obvious that it is tomatoes and not just red balls LOL!
