13/52: Reflection - Hearts in Vancouver thanking all the healthcare workers for everything they are doing to get us through these tough times.
The Library is sponsoring book displays based on topics given to us by student clubs and organizations. The first book display is sponsored by the Rainbow Connection, which "is a non-discriminating group that supports people of diverse sexuality." The books in the image above are titles that the Library has purchased within the past year that are related to the interests of the Rainbow Connection.
Please stop by the browsing section of the Library, which is located on the second floor, to see the full book display.
If you need assistance finding these books or other resources, please see a librarian.
The Monona Terrace changed its exterior lights from yellow to blue to honor healthcare workers during this pandemic, a trend many buildings and organizations are following. I was hoping for a more grand display but it still looks nice, this isn't something I should complain about anyway.
I always like that back light I see in the late part of the day. I seem to be enjoying this photoshop paint. Somehow I just like how it makes the color pop out more. I don't like that every one can make the same textures by the push of some sliders. I hope to find some new way to use this. I do hope you like the composition and subject.

HM Prison Shrewsbury was a Category B/C men's prison in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, which closed in March 2013.
Some times the symmetrical ones just grab me so deeply. I can look at them for a long time just day dreaming. I hope you can also enjoy them. Just imagine them being over 8 feet wide on a gallery wall. That is the way I would like them all to be.

On a side note. My new art show is now up and running All of March to the 7th of April. If you would like to see my photos in person.

Father and son collaboration
Our photographic art is a kinetic motion study, from the results of interacting with my son A.J and his toys.
He was born severely handicapped much like a quadriplegic. On December 17,1998. Our family’s goal has always been to help A.J. use his mind, even though he has minimal use of his body.
A.J. likes to watch lights and movement. One of the few things he can do for himself is to operate a switch that sets in motion lights and various shiny, colorful streamers and toys that swirl above his bed.
One day I took a picture of A.J. with his toys flying out from the big mobile near his bed like swings on a carnival ride. I liked the way the swirling objects and colors looked in the photo.
I wanted to study the motion more and photograph the whirling objects in an artful way, I wanted my son A.J. to be a part of it. After all, he’s the one who inspires me. When A.J. and I work together on our motion artwork, A.J. starts his streamers and objects twirling, I take the photographs.
Activating a tiny switch might not seem like much to some, but it’s all A.J. can do. He controls the direction the mobile will spin, as well as when it starts and stops. The shutter speeds are long, and sometimes, I move the camera and other times I hold it still.
I begin our creation with a Nikon digital camera. Then I use my computer with Photoshop to alter the images into what I feel might be an artistic way. Working with Photoshop, I find the best parts from several images and combine them into the final composite photograph. I consider the finished work to be fine art. The computer is just the vehicle that helps my expressions grow.
I take the photographs and A.J. adds the magic. It’s something this father and son do together. After I’ve taken a few shots, I show him the photos in the back of the camera. When the images are completed, I show him from a laptop. He just looks. He can’t tell me whether or not he likes the images, but he’s always ready to work with me again.
It offers me my only glance into A.J.’s secret world. We’ve built a large collection of images and I hope the motion and color move you as much as they do me.
A.J. inspires me to work harder to understand my life in the areas of art, photography, people, spirituality, and so much more. He truly sets my mind in motion and helps me find the beauty in everyday things.

Two different rallies took place in downtown Houston yesterday – one for reform and one against.
The first rally was held by organizations and citizens who support healthcare reform.
That rally took place by the Houston City Hall reflection pond at 6:30 p.m. It was part of a tour called “Let’s Get It Done.”
The second rally took place at the same time – and at the same place. It was organized by several pro-life groups who don’t want a health care reform plan that includes abortion.

So I'm out and about on a chilly Tuesday morning, and I run into this guy who's just having too much fun. Well, not really. He's homeless and was hungry, but he has a great attitude just the same. Having worked for several years as a healthcare provider in the homeless community, I kinda have a weak spot for these folks. But ya know, a late morning snack and some pleasant conversation can go a long way in making anyone's day a little bit better.

I try to keep this project as much about art (and random objects) as possible, but I thought a topical photo was important tonight.
To clarify, I'm very much in support of the current healthcare reform legislation. It's about time we start giving the tools needed for the lower class to achieve middle class life back to the poor. This helps with that. It's about time we recognize healthcare as a basic right afforded to us in the "life, liberty and pursuit of happiness" clause. This helps with that as well. More importantly, it's about time the Democratic legislative and executive branches finally follow through on what we elected them to do.
Here's to hoping we have a bill passed tonight.

A placard from a rally opposite Lewisham Hospital on February 15, 2013, called as part of the campaign to save the hospital from plans to severely downgrade its services and to sell off 60 percent of its buildings, which were approved two weeks ago by the health secretary Jeremy Hunt.
Jeremy Hunt was responding to proposals submitted by Matthew Kershaw, the NHS Special Administrator charged with finding solutions to the financial problems of the South London Healthcare Trust, a neighbouring trust, which was placed in administration in the summer. He did so by proposing that Lewisham -- a financially viable hospital -- should have its A&E Department closed, other services (including maternity) severely downgraded, and 60 percent of its buildings sold.
Since those proposals were made at the end of October, the people of Lewisham have mounted a massive campaign of resistance, with 25,000 people marching on January 26, the Saturday before Hunt made his decision.
The fight to save Lewisham Hospital continues!
