If you decide to travel along this highway into the bowels of the Universe, carry enough fuel to cover the billions of light years ahead of you. You won't find a place to refuel. When you have travelled this distance without finding anything, not even a little bit of intelligent life and you reach the far reaches of the Universe... don't be scared... there's nothing there, either. Only the "nothing". Or since everything is cyclical, perhaps you have returned to the place where you started, full of wisdom from your long trip. It's probably better to look for intelligent life on Earth, but it's also very likely that you'll have a hard time finding it. Don't worry about not understanding the Universe or the reason for its existence... you're not Einstein, but one day you'll understand that... The Universe is wounded, but it still has infinity ahead of it. It still has you and me. Merry Christmas to all and to the infinite Universe that is within you.

Gregory Alan Isakov - The Universe

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Parts VI–IX

"Shine On You Crazy Diamond", was written as a tribute to Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd. He was also known as "The Crazy Diamond Syd". Barrett was a very creative musician and is considered one of the rock icons, with a strong influence on many artists, very especially to David Bowie. Syd Barrett is a key piece to understand the evolution of rock in the 70s.. Excessive drug use, especially LSD, caused him serious mental health problems. Syd Barrett died in 2006 at the age of 60. Always shine diamond.

Blur - The Universal

The Universal is a science fiction song written as a tribute to two films by film director Stanley Kubrick. In the video, the Blur members wear outfits similar to Alex and his gang of thugs, the protagonists of the movie "A Clockwork Orange." The image used for the cover of the single alluded to what is possibly Kubrick's best film: "2001: To Space Odyssey."

Also Sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss (Op. 30) / The Dawn of Man scene, 2001: A Space Odyssey by Stanley Kubrick, 1969

Small forest of hardwoods keeps watch over Seminary Fen Scientific & Natural Area in Chanhassen/Chaska, Minnesota.

This was originally the site of the Mudcura Sanitarium, a world-famous spa that was opened in 1909 and operated until 1951.

Per MNOpedia, in 1951, the sanitarium was sold to the Black Franciscans, Order of Friars Minor Conventual, from Louisville, Kentucky. They named it Assumption Seminary and the site became linked with both the Colleges of St. Catherine and St. Thomas in St. Paul.

The Seminary remained in operation until 1970 and then sat vacant for many years, becoming a popular hangout for teens and other thrill seekers. The main building burned and was demolished in 1997.

The land is now home to the Minnesota DNR Seminary Fen Scientific & Natural Area that protects the rare calcareous fen that is now the star of the show here.

“Conclusions: The continuous exposure of mobile phone RF at 3.5 GHz or 4.9 GHz for 35 d (1 h/d) induces an increase of BBB [blood-brain barrier] permeability in the mouse cerebral cortex, perhaps by reducing the expression of occludin protein.”

Here is an excerpt from a scientific study called Factors controlling permeability of the blood–brain barrier: “The normal BBB [blood-brain barrier] integrity is essential in protecting the brain from systemic toxins and maintaining the necessary level of nutrients and ions for neuronal function.”

The Cleveland Clinic says this: “Your blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a tightly locked layer of cells that defend your brain from harmful substances, germs and other things that could cause damage. It’s a key part of maintaining your brain health. It also holds good things inside your brain, maintaining the organ’s delicate chemical balance.”

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is a large park with an eminent garden in Shinjuku and Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. It was originally a residence of the Naitō family in the Edo period. Afterwards, it became a garden under the management of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan. It is now a park under the jurisdiction of the national Ministry of the Environment.

The shogun bequeathed this land to Lord Naitō (daimyo) of Tsuruga in the Edo period who completed a garden here in 1772. After the Meiji Restoration the house and its grounds were converted into an experimental agricultural centre. It then because a botanical garden before becoming an imperial garden in 1879. The current configuration of the garden was completed in 1906. Most of the garden was destroyed by air raids in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The garden was rebuilt after the war.

The jurisdiction over the Imperial Palace Outer Garden and the Kyoto imperial garden was transferred to the Ministry of Health and Welfare (now part of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) in 1947.

On May 21, 1949 the garden became open to the public as "National Park Shinjuku Imperial Gardens". It came under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of the Environment in January 2001 with the official name "Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden".

First time to take photo of 22 degree halo, and it was by coincidence!

Happy New Year with lot of love, luck and good health!

Flynn came on a snowdrop hunt with me this week! It always make me happy to find these first little flowers of the new year... I don't mind our winter weather too much (unless we have an unusually soggy one!) but the short, dark days are a drag. Once the snowdrops begin to bloom, it's a sign that brighter days will soon be here again!

Other than the day we went to the woods to hunt for flowers, Flynn's had a pretty quiet week. It's the first full week of him being on new meds, so we've been taking it steady, in case he feels funny. I won't stop fretting til he has blood work done & but as far as I can tell, Flynn seems to be tolerating these drugs better than the ones he tried at the end of last year - admittedly, he is currently only on a 1/2 dose, so I think that's helped limit side-effects! The first couple of days were rough - first night he was really agitated, the next, he seemed to be dizzy... but he now appears fairly normal, if a little tired at times (hard to say if that's the medication or his health problem). Anyway, we're just doing as much as Flynn wants really! Today, it's tipping down with rain, so we're having an indoorsy day...

With heartfelt and genuine thanks for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day, be well, keep your eyes open, appreciate the beauty surrounding you, enjoy creating, stay safe and laugh often! ❤️❤️❤️

Feast of Our Virgin of Health

The feast of the Virgin of Health is a religious festival in the city of Venice, which takes place November 21 of each year. It is a pilgrimage of thanksgiving towards the Virgin that has as its goal the basilica of Santa Maria della Salute.

Throughout the day, in the church, kept open without interruption, are celebrated continuously masses and rosaries, with a continuous influx of the faithful.

The recurrence originates from the large outbreak of bubonic plague that struck the whole of northern Italy between 1630 and 1631.

in 1966, at independence, botswana was the second poorest country in the world. perhaps that is why it was not fought over by the colonial powers. since independence, the discovery of diamonds changed the economics of the country. the government actually used diamond revenues to invest in health and education. every citizen has health care coverage, private insurances compete with the national service.

tomorrow, june 25, a major rally will be held in washington dc, by the national physician's alliance (a group that emerged out of a student organization so that physicians for whom patient advocacy was a core value, could have a voice). the us struggles to provide health coverage to all. the american medical association has once again shown its venal nature by opposing any national health plan as an option on the table.

I don't know if I've ever used the expression "In the pink" other than here, now, so I thought I'd better look it up to see what it really, really means: because, y'know.

It turns out, originally, it meant of the very highest quality, which this isn't. Nor is it (the rose or part of one you can see) of the most high excellence, as I edited out the nasty bits. Probably, some of it (the image) isn't even pink, like, and may be mauve, which I've always associated with pretence and vulgarity.
