This was taken at a milk farm late in the afternoon . It is a few leaves of a young oak tree .
The difference you see in the blue and white is as a result dusty air before sunset .
I had to do a bit of post-processing with this one .
To make this a 16:9 picture a had to fill a gradient on the right side to fit the progression of white to blue . This was very difficult because I do not know an effective way of doing this besides trail and error , but finally I got it to fit . If somebody knows of a tutorial for gimp on how to do this in a faster and more effective manner it would be great if you could point me towards it.
After the gradient has been done I saturated the colours and increased the highlights with a colour curve remapping .

This is a percolator filled with rooibos tea leaves . This was taken in our kitchen in the late afternoon .
I used a slow 0.5 shutter speed and a tripod.
I did not need to do a lot of post processing .
The highlights were already to my liking .
I darkened the blacks a bit with a colour curve remapping by decreasing the dark side edge .
As well as increasing the saturation on the tee to give the illusion of the glowing colour of the tea vibrating in a very solid container .
I woke up 4:30 AM to take this shot.

An experimental photo with motion blur by turning the camera on a slower 1/60 shutter speed to create a focus point where icons may be laid for a desktop background.
This is definitely not for everyone. My target audience with this photo is more the right than the left brain individuals.
Some experimentation on the bokeh effect.
As I see it , there are 2 different types of images that make a good recipe for backgrounds .
One is an image with neutral colours and a sharp focus, and the other is a soft focus with non-neutral colours.
This is an experiment on the latter.
Also, I tried to keep the ubuntu colour scheme in mind when creating this image
I am having difficulties finding the correct saturation value.
If you find this image interesting enough let me know how much more or less(GIMP saturation values) you think this needs to be saturated for it to look optimal.

This is the Clivia flower just as it starts blossoming . It is a plant native to South Africa .
It was taken with a slower 1/50 shutter speed with natural sunlight from the side only touching the top of the plant .
The post-processing consisted of a colour curve remapping where the light side edge of the spectrum was increased and the dark side edge decreased for a greater contrast between the background and the foreground.
The colours were also saturated a bit to emphasise that nice glow and fiery colour.

As fas as I know this rose is called a Winter Sunshine . It was taken at a rose farm in South Africa .
