I commissioned this from Skyfinder Productions at KawaKon. I'm not sure how I'm going to wear it with Hawkeye, but I'm going to find a way. It's so cute!

Every fall and spring, while migrating north or south, buzzards spend a few days near our neighborhood. They often circle high above us or roost on our rooftops. Because, after all, we are a 55+ community and they’re probably hoping one of us will become their next feast. So, I decided to hire “Hawkeye Security” to canvass our neighborhood and keep a lookout for buzzard intruders. This is Maynard, our personal security hawk. He moves from house to house, keeping an eye out for no-goodnik vultures. He is quick to jump into action or call in backup whenever needed. So far, so good.

This is my story about hawks. It continues in this and the next four posts down my stream.

Hawkeye was a character, a scout, in the Fenimore Cooper Leather Stocking Tales. He was the partner of Unkas, the last of the Mohicans.

My sculpture reminds me of my lifelong fascination with the hawk and other raptors. They are majestic in their soaring flights or even when perched at the top of a dead tree surveying for the next opportunity.
