"The Palace of Winds"
or "The Palace of Breeze") is a palace in Jaipur, India approximately 300 kilometers from the capital city of Delhi.
Built from red and pink sandstone, the palace sits on the edge of the City Palace, Jaipur, and extends to the Zenana, or women's chambers.

HAWA MAHAL (PALACE OF WINDS)
Although the name suggests otherwise, the Hawa Mahal, located in Jaipur, is not actually a palace. Rather, it is a façade in the shape of the crown of the important Hindu god 'Krishna', with 953 windows. Behind these windows are hidden corridors, spread over 5 floors. Here the harem wives of the then Maharaja could still watch daily life and the annual parade without being seen. Because the wind always provides cooling here due to the honeycomb structure, the Hawa Mahal is also called 'Palace of winds'.

The Hawa Mahal-palace in Jaipur is one of the most extraordinary examples of the post-mogol-architecture.
It is not so much a real palace but more like a facade with 953 windows, balconies and alcoves spread out over 5 floors. These floors don't have a regular floor plan, but are mere hallways, that allowed the harem from the maharadja of Rajasthan to see the yearly parade without being spotted from the street. The building was built in in 1799 in commission by the former maharadja Sawai Pratap Singh as an extense to the city palace of Jaipur.
The name is a reference to the wind that blows trough the palace, 'wind palace', 'Hawa Mahal’’.

The palace sits on the edge of the City Palace, Jaipur, and extends to the zenana, or women's chambers. The original intent of the lattice design was to allow royal ladies to observe everyday life and festivals celebrated in the street below without being seen, since they had to obey the strict rules of "purdah", which forbade them from appearing in public without face coverings.

Also known as Hawa Mahal, and built in 1799. This is its best side, viewed from the other side of a very busy road. We had a couple of minutes while our driver stopped to allow photographs. We saw it last time we were in Jaipur, but it's an undeniably beautiful construction.
An architectural marvel of 953 windows.
Perhaps the most stunning example of Rajasthani heritage from the time of the Royals is the Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), a wonder of wonders that will leave you spellbound with its architectural ingenuity. It is located in the Indian city of Jaipur. Completed in 1799 and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site
