A juvenile harp seal on a beach in Massachusetts. Harp seals are found in the north Atlantic and arctic oceans are not seen often around here. Enviromentalists roped off the area and provided the seal with some snow until it returned back to the ocean.

I spent Thanksgiving weekend on the road with my friend, Greg, in Dinosaur National Monument, the only one of the Colorado National Park/Monuments that I had not seen before.
Goodness, did it exceed all my expectations? Of course, the Quarry Exhibit Hall satisfies scientific/philosophic questions and it makes you as hungry for more just like Smithsonian does. But the scenery while driving, or the gorgeous views while hiking are also hard to put in words. Harpers Corner Trail is amazing.
One can hardly believe that the view on the left and the view on the right are taken from the same outlook. I will post the second vista sometime soon. They are both taken with my iPhone and I am happy enough with the quality, but I doubt that there exists a camera to depict the real beauty of the trail.
Taken from Maryland Heights from the Maryland side of the Potomac River, after a long walk from the town below, which is in West Virginia state. The town is absolutely lovely, and one can still hear church bells, one of the few places in the USA where bells are ringing, the only other one I know is Charleston, South Carolina, more on the latter coming in the future. The town has historical significance, wikilink:

A CEFX AC44 leads auto rack train Q249 west as it blasts out of Harpers Ferry tunnel and over the Potomac River on a sunny afternoon in Harpers Ferry, WV,

Harper's Pass is located on the Te Aurora near Arthur's Pass. Before Arthur's Pass was built in the old days, Harper's Pass was one of the easier routes from New Zealand's eastern region to the treacherous west. The east and west are divided by mountains, and in these mountains even in summer the weather changes at the drop of a dime. There is a cabin not far from here, but we decided to stay near the pass this night as the area was beautiful and serene.
I spent a good portion of this night doing astro photography, and trying to capture the glow worms on the cliffs beside this river. This is much harder than you can imagine as the glow worms are in thick brush, and unlike a cave, there are many things that block and cloud your view. The stars were brilliant here as there is no noise pollution, or even airplanes to disturb you. It's one of those places in the world where you can still feel surrounded by nature without the feeling of seeing much if any human influences.
Harper's Ferry has about 300 full time residents and about 100 historical buildings. Most of which are attached to one another or running up the side of this huge hill. This one building stood out to me because it sits by itself, on level ground. The architecture of the town is very interesting and in some places you can see remnants of a former building built within a newer one. Some of these buildings house actual shops or restaurants and some have displays of what might have been in them from a couple hundred years ago. I was standing up on a hill where the railroad tracks run. The Amtrak train passes through Harper's Ferry and stops several times a day. I think Anita and I would like to take that train one day! :)
