I’m starting to think of these Lomography Turquoise shots as pictures of the future, where pollution from Trump’s sweeping changes to policy makes our skies orange. Leica R4, Lomography Turquoise, ECN-2 development.
Azhara- A delicate sparkling form
Bordeaux- From the South of France. Fait Main, hand made wire work to evoke a Provencal
setting anywhere.
Cimarron- I was searching for something to represent the Wind Horses of Tibet - but ended up
in the Southwest. Inspired by Silver and leather work outfitting horses all over
the globe.
Lancaster- Detail of feather quilting from the Pennsyvania Dutch region. Set in a straightforward
silhouette. Yeah, Amish quilts. ( I hand quilt, and have been fortunate to see
whole collections in person)
Helena- From the archives. An early original piece from Anne. Cleaned it up & made them
standard sizes. A simple and practical style.
Tamarai- From the souks. The White Lotus.
Quill- Suggests a time of prosperity and comfort, with ample time to think and create in the
study. I wanted an English author's name, but they didn't roll off the tongue.
Sometimes these get arbitrarily changed on me, but usually they stick....we'll see!
One time I wanted to call a piece Sonoma, and was openly ridiculed in front of everyone by an owner. "What kind of a name is that?"
Right after, same season, Martha Stewart had some Sonoma stuff....
In the back of the hardware store
There's a man who's been there for years
He's got a pipe in his mouth
And grease in his beard...
He's the old man at the hardware store
Selling antique gas pump supplies.
He knows his stuff, he's been around
He could care less sometimes...

When the snow tires come off, this comes out, the rust goes away and we all sing together...

UTA's 10th Anniversary MP36 locomotive departs the North Temple station in Salt Lake City, Utah on a crystal clear Dec. 2, 2022 afternoon. UP's former South Yard property continues to evolve as high-density housing occupies the space where freight trains were were broken and built a century ago.
Our journey from Glacier Park to The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone meant we had a stop in the lovely City of Helena. Snapped this Hardware store in the historic district which has some stunning old buildings.
This is an image appearing here earlier. I just changed the orange saturation down from being somewhat too intense.
Deakins Hardware shop is situated at 161 Albert Rd Stechford Birmingham. The windows of the shop have had metal shutters nailed on but they have been stolen from the right hand window, revealing streaked and rusted metal and distorted plywood, the windowless door has been also been sheeted with ply which has graffiti on it.
The shop blind is partially down and torn, the upper windows have their filthy remnants of mesh curtains, some of the glass is missing or broken, holed plaster is visible on the gable and several roof tiles are misplaced or missing. Next door is a neat Chinese take-away that has been re-pointed and smartened up, to the left is an industrial sized blue wheelie bin.
The shop looked like this in 2012, it looks similar the lost time I saw it in 2018, the upper floors have lost more plaster and tiles and the windows are broken with the same torn filthy curtains. Amazingly, a bare light bulb was on so somebody lives in this hovel.
I painted most of this picture in 2012 but re-worked large parts of it during Covid-19.
I submitted it to the judging panel at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, along with 2 newer pictures, for possible selection in the Friends of the RBSA Winter Exhibition and this was chosen for inclusion.

A closer view of the famous Pippo's Hardware ghost sign in Whitehall, New York. Compare to a 2014 photo to see how much it faded in eight years.
