HALCYON (hal-see-yon): Adj. – Peaceful, Carefree, Untroubled, Prosperous

Coffeehouse by day, bar & lounge by night where you can always relax and find your own personal “halcyon”.

There is limited parking around this place but it's in the middle of all the new high-rise condos and downtown apartments so it's almost always busy.

Near Cochrane, Alberta

I wonder will we be

Up to the legend once we heard

I wonder if we will see

Each other flying as two

The white-throated kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) also known as the white-breasted kingfisher or Smyrna kingfisher, is a tree kingfisher, widely distributed in Asia from Turkey east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines.

Wikipedia: The white-throated kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) also known as the white-breasted kingfisher is a tree kingfisher, widely distributed in Asia from the Sinai east through the Indian subcontinent to the Philippines. This kingfisher is a resident over much of its range, although some populations may make short distance movements. It can often be found well away from water where it feeds on a wide range of prey that includes small reptiles, amphibians, crabs, small rodents and even birds. During the breeding season they call loudly in the mornings from prominent perches including the tops of buildings in urban areas or on wires.

LTA42 rounds the classic curve at Dakota past the remains of a March snow storm. During the sand boom of the 2010s, LTA was quite healthy, running two trains a week and generally using three big motors. Car counts were still high with Bentonite traffic off the CP/RCPE. This interchange traffic originated from an agreement formed after CNW dumped the Alco Line and PRC onto the DME.

Little did we know at the time, change was just over the horizon. In 2017, UP and RCPE worked out a new agreement to interchange the Bentonite in Mankato, cutting into LTA's car counts. But even after the loss of the Bentonite, frac sand still kept enough traffic moving to warrant two trains. But this too would bottom out around 2018. The final nail in the coffin was UP's PSR plan and their extreme cost cutting initiatives. Thus, sometime in late 2019/early 2020, UP scaled back LTA to a once-a-week run, using a single SD and the Winona Job's geep.

Although I have been trying to get 'different' shots of this wonderful bird - i.e. in flight or shaking a fish / motion blur etc - a simple portrait just shows how beautiful he is!

Another superb early morning in Coigach with low cloud and mist swirling over the tops of Stac Pollaidh and Cul Beag.

Maksimir Park is the oldest public park (founded in 1787, under the initiative of Bishop Maksimilijan Vrhovac of Zagreb) in Zagreb, Croatia. It was the first large public park in South-Eastern Europe. The park's landscaping style is predominantly romantic neoclassicism.

Halcyon has been donated to The Center for Wooden Boats and is being placed in their permanent collection of historically significant boats. Built in 1948, she is a 40 ft salmon trawler designed by Bill Gardin and later refit by master shipwright Sam Fry as a comfortable cruising trawler. The design goal was to replicate the original Bill Garden's lines to look like a working troller until you step aboard and realize that she is a new built on the original hull. She will be hosting day charters and serving as a teaching platform for maritime skills.

The 131 ft Schooner Adventuress was launched in East Boothbay, Maine, in 1913. She did arctic exploration, served as a bar pilot vessel in San Francisco and is now offering hands-on environmental education and leadership development to thousands of young people annually and partnering with youth-serving organizations to reach at-risk kids. Adventuress is a National Historic Landmark officially recognized as “Puget Sound’s Environmental Tall Ship.” She was less tall this day as she was sailing without her topmasts. the sunshine halcyon,

and the birdsong mellifluous,

is ephemeral,

yet quintessential

“some rise by wrong

and some by virtue fall

and those in judgment

could be

guiltiest of all

wash it all away

I'd love to bring you

on a silver tray,

some halcyon days”
