Stylist braiding hair on the walkway just outside her makeshift, closet-size, rented salon in Soweto.

The initial subject was the row of early 20th Century homes but the Hairstylist business gave it an extra dimension. Finally the man sitting in the widow makes the picture worth uploading to Flickr.

today I texted Elisa and messaged Anna, who is a hairstylist called All Things Lovely, and asked if they wanted to do a shoot. It felt so good to shoot for fun again!

This was based off so many things. Thoughts of St. Simons Island and the lighthouse there, stories of the lighthouse at SSI being haunted (hundreds died while building it), stories of a ship that crashed off the shore there, the classic widow who lost her lover at sea, and a song called "the Lighthouse's Tale" by Nickel Creek, which is one of the saddest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard. My mom used to love Nickel Creek and would play them in the car all the time.

There are a bunch more coming, so keep a look out :)
