The word Hadith simply refers to the sayings of Mohammad - as compared to the Koran which is not believed to be written by the prophet Mohammad but by God or Allah himself. So Hadith Studies simply refers to studying the various books written by Mohammad other than the Koran. there is a whole center relegated to just that.. it is an awe inspiring building and library.

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], "We make no distinction between any of His messengers." And they say, "We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination." Qur'an 2:285

Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said, "The believer who recites the Qur'an is like a citron whose fragrance is sweet and whose taste is delicious. A believer who does not recite the Qur'an is like a date-fruit which has no fragrance but has a sweet taste. The hypocrite who recites the Qur'an is like basil whose fragrance is so sweet, but its taste is bitter. The hypocrite who does not recite the Qur'an is like a colocynth which has no fragrance and its taste is bitter." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
