my wife was checking up on the battlestar galactica site and noticed this. so i asked her to get a screen cap.
site looks OK monday morning.
My HTPC have been hacked :)
I turned on the TV, and saw at the left-top corner the text: "SEE DESKTOP".
a file named "YOU HAVE BEEN HACKED, MENNY" was there (see screen-shot).
No damage has been done (although, I think I'll re-install my machine - maybe the guy left some stuff in...)

So what did we learn?
1. Check your router, it's the entry point to your network.
2. Never allow remote access to shady cheap routers from the wild wild Internet.
3. Don't use the same password for everything.
4. Linux is secure, those who use it are not.
5. And most important, educate yourself! And remember, don't be evil.

I'm a big fan of hacking the menu - ordering things in a restaurant in a way that wasn't intended, but which pays off with big dividends. I'll usually add on a side of sausage at breakfast, just to have something to put inside the inevitable dry biscuit or English muffin. It's a bit like getting an extra sandwich (or two) with my order. Grape jelly is often added, but is optional.

Hack Manhattan is a community hackerspace in New York City where people come together to work on projects and share knowledge. The space has tools and materials for working on electronics, software, wood, metal, textiles and 3D printing. Hack Manhattan's founders view their space as a public resource, designed to meet the goal of promoting and encouraging technical, scientific, and artistic skills through individual projects, social collaboration, and education. This non-profit organization is supported primarily by members. Membership is open to the public, and members span a wide array of backgrounds and interests.

Melissa Plaut's book of the blog of the life arrived in Canberra, a pre-order from Amazon, and I spent a lot of my night shift reading about her life as a night cabbie in Manhattan. She's one hip cabbie!
Here's her book perched on the roof of my cab on the main rank in Canberra one midweek evening.
As the sign states there was a house in Budapest at this spot that was owned by the Hackers. Must have been a German family hence the house wore the name Hacker House. Like it!

This is Hack Bartholomew. He caught my attention as I was waiting in line for a healthy breakfast at Cafe du Monde. He was very entertaining as he was playing the Alabama fight song the morning after our big win in the Sugar Bowl.
I bought his CD and asked if I could take his photo.
Our local news station, KOTV Channel 6 had their website hacked. I managed to get a picture of the damage (and send in a call of warning) around 1:30am last night.
