There is a dip in the rails just out of frame to the left caused by a sinking rail bed that had been causing some consternation from drivers at the intersection, and a few people that live across the street from the tracks here.
The UP decided to try grinding the high spot after the dip instead of fixing the problem.
It didn't work, trains would still go by at 60 bouncing off the road grade and at the right harmony would bounce the wheels off the rails and shake the surrounding area with what id guess is about a 1 or a 2 on the seismic scale.
The eventually spent about 3 weeks fixing it the right way tearing everything out and rebuilding it.
More of those pics coming in the next few weeks.
