De hegemonie van DB Cargo in het kolenvervoer is zo'n 10 jaar geleden doorbroken toen goederenvervoerders rail4chem en HGK kolentreinen gingen rijden tussen Rotterdam, Amsterdam en Möllen. De jaren erna volgden ook andere private vervoerders zoals TX Logistik, Rhenus, NIAG en RRF met enkele nieuwe vervoersstromen naar diverse bestemmingen, vaak in Duitsland.
Sinds april 2021 is Rail Force One een nieuw vervoer gestart naar het Tsjechische Ostrava. Deze treinen werden eerst nog beladen op de Maasvlakte, maar al snel werd het laden verplaatst naar de Amsterdamse Westhaven en de Houtrakpolder. In 2022 startte ook PKP Cargo een nieuwe vervoersstroom, maar al snel verdween PKP alweer en kwam daar HSL voor in de plaats (vervoer van PKP overgenomen?).
Waar DB Cargo haar kolen doorgaans in zelflossers type Falns vervoerd, gebruiken de private vervoerders tegenwoordig steeds vaker openbak-wagens type Eas en Eanos. HSL Nederland rijdt inmiddels drie keer per week een kolentrein richting Polen en verzorgt de tractie tot aan Frankfurt/Oder. Voor een plaatje van de beladen trein moet je vroeg opstaan, in de winter is de trein vaak voor zonsopgang het land al uit.
Op dinsdag 14 februari was de beladen kolentrein van HSL ingelegd met extra stops in Stroe en Deventer. Dat bleek deels ook wel nodig want de trein kwam flink vertraagd in Stroe aan. De latere doorkomst ná Deventer en het mooie voorspelde weer maakte dat er vanaf huis eerst richting Twente werd gereden voor een plaatje van deze trein. Ter plaatse aangekomen verdwenen de nog aanwezige mistbanken snel na zonsopkomst en zo kon de HSL 186 381 bij Dijkerhoek worden vastgelegd.

The photoshoot was done late in the evening, we were quite short on time so I did the best I could and improvised where necessary due to a lack of equipment. Most of my good lightstands, my umbrellas, and a few other things were not with me at the time. Pardon the dull backgrounds, we didn't have alot of time to venture out and try different settings.
Brent is definitely interested in being covered in D-Sport magazine, hopefully with these photos I'll be able to grab someones attention over there and shoot again when the car is finished (soon).
