The Eastern Sierras from a place I hadn't been to before. Many thanks to my friend Jean Day who showed me this location.

Walkers strolling along the Boardwalk in the Yellowstone's Midway Geyser Basin. The Grand Prismatic Spring is magnificent as seen from the chalky, steep, treacherous hill to it's SW.
The Opal and Turquoise pools are above it with the Excelsior pool steaming to the right.
Thank you for taking a look!
Getting ready for 2 inspection then we can pull it all apart to paint and upholstery and final build
This fascinating Coneflower (Echinacea) cultivar is a new addition to my garden, just in time for unusually high temperatures for June. Thank goodness cooler temperatures with rain have arrived, since I'm not a fan of heat.
"What dreadful hot weather we have! It keeps one in a perpetual state of inelegance."

Yellowstone's Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest spot in the park, closest to the hot magma not far below. Pictured here is the Colloidal Pool in the Porcelain Basin of this large geothermal wonder.
Quite the memorable experience walking thru here with all the geysers, boiling pools and fumaroles belching sulphuric steam. I found it a bit eerie, yet can't wait to return.....
Thanks for your visit. Always appreciated.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend!

Another hot and smoky day. I didn't go out, so I had to do some archive diving. This Great Blue Heron has the right idea...stay wet to stay cool. Dunk your head, even if you're not really catching a fish.

Something warmer for today....
A section of Yellowstone's Porcelain Basin in the Norris Geyser Basin.
"Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest, oldest, and most dynamic of Yellowstone's thermal areas. The highest temperature yet recorded in any geothermal area in Yellowstone was measured in a scientific drill hole at Norris: 459°F (237°C) just 1,087 feet (326 meters) below the surface! There are very few thermal features at Norris under the boiling point (199°F at this elevation).
Norris shows evidence of having had thermal features for at least 115,000 years. The features in the basin change daily, with frequent disturbances from seismic activity and water fluctuations. The vast majority of the waters at Norris are acidic, including acid geysers which are very rare. Steamboat Geyser, the tallest geyser in the world at 300–400 feet (91–122 m) and Echinus Geyser (pH 3.5 or so) are the most popular features."

There is an amazing variety of sunflowers on the cut flower fields around here but I'm always drawn to the red ones like the one in this photos. After a sunny morning it's cloudy here now but it still doesn't rain. What a summer !
There is a hot stream that flows from the Imperial Geyser at Yellowstone. Since the source of the stream is the geyser, the water is quite warm and steamy. Kind of surreal. See the photo in the first comment for context.
