I meant to upload this over the weekend, but forgot, its just over a year since i captured this beauty, a version of this has been hanging on my wall since then.
This is the full blown Pano version i have been promising since last year. (Sorry Kush) ;-)
Ps , This is the first image i have uploaded using the "save for web" function, normally i upload straight RGB colour space, this is converted to sRGB using that function, the colours appear to have held..
Pps it also got rid of my Exif data, it was taken 12 months ago and not today !!
Thanks for viewing, hope you enjoy.
We drove up the west coast of Newfoundland to St. Anthony in search of icebergs. I really didn't think we would find one in July. When we got there I didn't see any, so I asked a local if there were any to be found. He directed me to Goose Bay - 8 clicks down the road - where he claimed there were a bunch just sitting there.
I expected to see something small and melted. I was wrong.
You start with a 25 year old guide.
You add 15 people, 14 of whom are over 50, four which are self - professed 'REALLY picky eaters' -- add 14 km hikes UP mountains and stops everywhere from spider infested 'hobbit holes' to beachfront resorts.
You make the old people carry sleeping bags into most of the venues and you send them on road trips that can be up to 11 hours long.
Back to the guide. This guy (remember he's like 25) has to be able to drive a huge truck over rutted roads, make impossible turns and do MOST of the cooking from the side of a truck.
If one of his aging brood is missing, say on a massively difficult trail (and NO...it wasn't me), this guide has to put down his lunch and go back over the trail until he finds, rescues him and brings him back to the fold...having remembered to set a plate of food aside in case he's hungry.
He also tackles hills and trails and slippery rocks with speed that would make Superman pee his pants...and he does it in flip flops. Then he smokes a cigarette. Or three. (**sigh** Who said 'Youth is wasted on the young?')
Amazing guy, this Wilco (pronounced "VIL-ko.) Here he is being asked questions by three people at a time before making six km hike along the beach and into the forest.
The only time he was left alone was when he was on one of those marathon drives across this vast country. Then he plugs in his ancient iPod and listens to Disney tunes as he navigates the roads and rutted paths with unerring precision.
He was offered a new iPod (no names of course) with Ozzy, AC/DC, Led Zep...and other music more befitting a 25 year old...but he politely declined. He likes the Disney tunes better.
He speaks with that smooth South African accent. He teaches us that "now now" means 'Yes, I heard you and I'll get to it...soon." He also teaches us that 'a little hike' CAN mean scrambling over rocks, in unreasonably high winds and along the side of a mountain for miles.
When I was 25, I considered myself a success if I remembered to pull up my fly...and responsible if I could remember where I parked my car.
So here's to you, Wilco. You did a splendid job. We enjoyed having our lives cross with yours. Stay well.
every time i look at this i have to force myself to remember which is real and which is reflected. and i was there!

I've seen some portraits of Alex Grey and wanted to do something that was mostly original, explained my interpretation of him as an artist, and also the effect he has on others with his work..
so I sketched his face out about a year and half ago on the canvas..
yes that’s right..
And it’s been on the canvas waiting..
Something always stopped me from gessoing over it to begin a new painting..
So I hauled it up in the Uhaul with the rest of the selected works coming with us to the mountains..
And now that the painting studio is complete..
I begin.
Alex Grey and his wife Allyson Grey did a live painting show in Denver a week ago…
I saw the effect it brought upon another fellow artist we brought along..
Also to note - while roaming around the venue a beautiful girl with long brown hair stopped in front of me, grabbed my shoulders and just had her face in my face..
She was out of breath and said “Did you feel that wave??!” and she started fanning herself , laughing hysterically ..
ran off dancing into the crowd. ..and that was my hello and goodbye to a complete stranger.
Ripple effect.
That’s it.
It’s perfect.
The black you see there is meant to be for white highlights of water ripples coming toward you and outward..
The rest well it’ll come out when it comes out.
I giggled to myself when the words came to mind ---“Holycrap! I just split Alex Grey’s head open!”
went to an 80's themed bday party tonight. forgot how much fun dancing to 80's music was BUT also forgot how to dance 80's style. luckily most everyone else was too young to really remember, so we got to be the experts.
Wait, is this real?! Am I really uploading the picture and typing the description I've dreamed about for months? It honestly feels really strange to be ending a project that was possibly the biggest part of my life the past year (although that should have been God).
When I first began my 365 I had just gotten my camera, had just learned to use the manual settings, was using picasa and picnik as my editing programs, and only had my kit lens. Wow, how things have changed :). In the process of this project I have learned to use my camera more and more, got photoshop and learned how to use it, and got my 50mm lens, and my tripod.
But a lot of the ability I have for photography now, I owe to all of you. I know I wouldn't be the photographer I am today if it wasn't for flickr. If it wasn't for you all and the ideas you have inspired me to try and all the help and encouragement. And if I had not taken on this project I know I wouldn't be where I am now. And through you all, I have learned that liking your own pictures is a very important thing. CONFIDENCE. mindset. It helps more than you may think it does!
And no, I didn't finish on time. I was supposed to finish last Thursday, but it doesn't matter because all I resolved to do was finish in February, and I did.
I want to take a second to thank some people:
First, thank you to my friends Abby and Haley for introducing me to flickr! You might not have even realized you did so, but I saw the link from facebook ;) You guys are amazing friends and wonderful people, and honestly a lot of my photography style is inspired by you. Thanks guys! :D And thanks to my friend Melanie, just for being freakin awesome.
Thank you Marshay for being like the coolest person on flickr, an AMAZING encouragement, friend, photographer, and more of an inspiration than you'll ever know.
Thank you to everyone who consistently commented/favorited my pictures throughout this project and made me feel really awesome, especially Harmony, Bernie, Hani, Julia, Leah, Stacey, Charmaine, Samantha, Wade, Mckayla, Maria, Katie and anyone else I may have blatantly forgotten. You're all such wonderful photographers and friends. Thank you :)
Also thanks to my friends Aaron and Kristen for being consistent models throughout my 365 (y'all saved me on wednesdays lol). Also thank you guys so much for always telling me how much you love my pictures and favoriting like ALL OF THEM! It made me so happy <3 And thank you to any of my friends who tell me they like my photography, it means a lot.
Anyway, have you noticed how much that description made it sound like I'm leaving forever? BULLCRAP. I promise I'd never do that. Basically, my concept for today is that my photography journey is only beginning. It may be the end of my 365, but I will be uploading all the time. God-willing, I'll still be on flickr when I'm in my 30's and so on :D I.will.never.leave.
What an experience! This feels so strange. God bless you all ^_^
i took this at my friend denise's house last weekend. seeing these brought back memories of being a DJ at my college radio station. this was in 1990-1991, when CDs were just starting to truly compete with vinyl. i remember we had two turntables, and there was nothing sweeter than a perfect segue from one song to another -- and i don't mean just the fade in and out, but the context from one song to the next. and using pennies to weight down the needle so it would cut through scratches? priceless.
Would you believe all this arrived in my mailbox from ONE person?!?! Yet another surprise package from the astoundingly generous Melissa Allen of SnitchesGetStitches fame! This time landing on my doorstep in a box big enough to fit three Sadies and featuring a candy & carnival/circus theme!
My hubby damn near had to dig out the smelling salts to revive me! I could have practically filled a bathtub with the goodies that she sent! There was no way in the world it was all going to fit into one picture frame... there's so much missing here... a package of stylish serviettes, a delectable 'Parasite Pals' purse & darling plastic 'Teacups Ride' thingy, etc. This is just a taste of what the MONSTER-SIZED box contained!
This girl seriously MAKES ME CRY she is so endlessly thoughtful & sweet! I was just about weeping with joy reading the handwritten note that came with it. Such incredible sentiment expressed. It was the next best thing to receiving Melissa in the mail herself!
Melissa you have GOT to stop doing this or you will put me in the grave! :) I heart you so DANG much! You do not know how completely shell-shocked I am, nor how grateful I am to know the bottomless well of kindness that is YOU!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, with all my Missy-might! <3
I liked the hallway, so I shot it (with my camera).
I liked the graffiti, so I enhanced it (in Photoshop).
I like clown vomit, so I made some (with the saturation on contrast sliders).
So, yeah. I give you: CLOWN VOMIT!
I like it garish like this. It appeals to the vulgar side of me.
My most insincere apologies if, by looking at this, you contacts melt to your eyeballs.
Thank you to σℓινια..m.♥ for the sweet testimonial.
You should definitely view here.
Today has been fantastic for so many reasons. One I will share with you: I received this lens for my birthday. I am in love with it. I knew I was getting it, however, because my family is dysfunctional and my brother sent me the confirmation email for the purchase. I finally got to tell them I knew all along.
Do not expect my photos to look like Zack Ahern's now though, just because I have his lens.
Another reason I will share with you: I received other camera stuff that I do not know how to use yet. Y'all will be the first to know once I figure it all out.
Yet another reason: one of my brothers made me a mix CD like I asked for. Another one is working on it right now. And the other one, who knows.
Thank you to all who wished me a happy birthday yesterday, but today is my birthday. Sorry for the confusion.
I can't believe I'm finally thirty-three.
Edit: Made it to Explore. Thanks kids.
here's to long shots and voodoo magic.
*raises glass*
Leeloo is coming back to me!
(thank you, Tine, I had absolutely *no* expectations when I asked you last week, but you totally made my day - week - month!)
this just goes to show:
don't give up. if you want something, just ask for it. the universe is listening.
have a fabulous weekend, everyone!
i prefer panda pre-panhat, but people seem to disagree with me. and if your wondering hat the hell this is about, check the thread here...

Me and a bit of my weaponry .... holy cow, I've posted 15,000 shots on Flickr at this point!!
Thank you all for your comments, support and fabulous friendships along the way! ox
It's the Little Things 2.0 #308
First of all: If your laughing at this picture your are a heartless, soulless, hateful, indifferent, compassionless, cruel, unfeeling, callous, hard hearted, unsympathetic, unkind, dismissive bastard.
May you rot in the eternal flames of Hades, and may it be both hot and humid.
Secondly: It is kinda funny, aint it? ( LMAO )
Last but not least: This picture isn't a put on... I didn't make this sign, it not a joke. I was on my way back to my humble abode when again, out the out the corner of my eye a saw something that I had to capture. I made a Michigan left, parked, zig-zagged in-between traffic to get to the median and grabbed these images.
Often when I review this picture I think of the back-story here. Irwin's owner clearly, deeply, loves his pet, the surgery, the pills, had to cost a pretty penny to keep Irwin alive. Clearly the owner is one those "no cost is too great for my baby" people, commendable but a little scary. Now let's "flip the script." If you ask me I think the damn thing ran off to find a quiet, peaceful place to die (no really). Imagine what it was like living with this owner the constant hovering, the unending pain, all the baby talk, at some point I would want "do myself" too.
I can't tell you how this story ended but I hoped things worked out to the dogs benefit.
C.C.
I thought long and hard about putting this image online I know what
ripe bastards people can be. It's been sometime since I took this shot,
still, I'm afraid some asshole may call and torment these poor people further.
Don't be that guy.
Lyrics are from Slow Me Down by Emmy Rossum
So I just had one of those moments as I was typing out the title and I realize how far I've come and that I've survived almost three-hundred days. Then I think back to where I was last year on this day and I honestly can't recognize who that was. It's crazy how much this project has changed me.
Anyway, I'm leaving at four tomorrow morning for...dundundunnn, the Carolinas! Yayyy! And we're going to see the Biltmore Estate on Friday and I am armed with a DSLR and (at the moment) two disposable cameras XD I'm excited!
Sooo you should all ask me questions and flickrmail me about prints tonight so I have things to think about and do during a fifteen hour car ride (that do not invovle conversing with my little brother) ;DD
And, and, and I got my hair permed last night, so this photo is the day after lol, which would explain why it looks so terrible and unusual =P
Formspring! No really, ask me questions! XD
HolyCrap! All the reviews are right. This Body is Amazing. I also really like this sculpt. I will try to repaint her. Is MSC good for Rubber?
Note: I also got the green and orange top versions, but they will be taken apart for hybrids.
I had only a vague idea of where I was exactly when I called the fire in and my directions were really vague though they found me nonetheless. I guess the bellowing smoke was a good landmark though :)
