This image is an exception as it underwent some processing...

... the advertising lights are just too bright.

Merged from 2 exposures, 1 EV apart, manually corrected the merged result for the readability of the advertising signs. Cropped into a panoramic format.

China, Beijing, .....it is not a science fiction, it is an authentic photo.

…starry, starry night, the “Birds Egg”, the nickname for the Grand National Theatre, west of the Tiananmen Square with back of the Great Hall of the People on the left side of the picture & diagonal opposite the Forbidden City.

The ellipsoid dome of titanium & glass is surrounded by an artificial lake, the entrance is leading into the building after walking through a tunnel like hallway underneath the lake. Small unregularly placed lights installed on the outside shell of the construction seem to blend in with the stars on the sky,…if it is not clouded, but even so

The arts centre containing an opera, music & theatre hall, with a total of seats 5,452 people in the three halls with almost 12,000 m² in size. Construction, designed by French architect Paul Andreu, started in December 2001, the inaugural concert was held in December 2007.

The dome measures 212 mtr by 144 mtr & is 46 meters, seven floors public area high. The main entrance is at the north side. Guests arrive in the building after walking through a hallway that goes underneath the lake.

Photo taken from the border of the pool surrounding the National Theatre above the main entrance, facing the lightened, glass roof covered “tunnel” leading towards the building.

China, Hong Kong, not such a nice Wednesday morning for photo shooting, however….

The HK Convention & Exhibition Centre, located in Wan Chai North at the Victoria Harbour. The HKCEC with its vast curtain of glass overlooking the Victoria Harbour on three sides & 40,000-square-metre aluminium roof sculpted to echo a seabird soaring in flight, also referred to as a turtle, is a major landmark on the Hong Kong Island skyline.

Internationally, the HKCEC is known as a world-class convention & exhibition centre & was voted Best Convention & Exhibition Centre in Asia for the 13 times by industry awards in 2016.

The original building was built on reclaimed land off Gloucester Road in 1988. The second phase of the centre, located on an artificial island, was constructed from 1994 to 1997 & another expansion during 2006–2009.

The HKCEC was the backdrop for the Handover Ceremony on 30 June 1997, when the former British Crown Colony was returned to the People's Republic of China & the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region was established.

The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC) is one of the two major convention and exhibition venues in Hong Kong, along with AsiaWorld–Expo. The venue was designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, in association with Wong & Ouyang (HK) Ltd. Larry Oltmanns led the design as the Design Partner with SOM. The International Finance Centre (abbreviated as IFC) is a skyscraper and integrated commercial development on the waterfront of Hong Kong's Central District. Together they are the more significant markers of Hong Kong's skyline.

Short telephoto shot, taken from the HKCEC.

The ICC (international Commerce Centre) is Hong Kong's tallest building (482m). Still in the final phase of construction. Construction status as of early November 2009.

In the foreground the Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui. The vessel berthed at the Ocean Terminal is MV Explorer.

Looks much better if you view it on a black background.

The main duty of Government Flying Service (GFS) is to provide 24-hour emergency helicopter and fixed wing aerial support. This Airbus H175 has just finished a search-and-rescue operation, and is about to land on the HKCEC Heliport along the Victoria Harbour, in order to take the patient to the nearby hospital.

Each H175 has a crew of 2 pilots plus 1 or 2 aircrewman officers, and is equipped with a casualty capacity of 2 stretchers and 6 seats.

China, Xian, Guangren Temple, situated in downtown Xian in the north-west corner of the City Wall.

The Temple was an idealized place of great, idyllic magnificence & beauty, a Xanadu for the Grand Lama of the Northwest & Tibet when he passed through Shaanxi along the road to Beijing to meet with the emperor. The temple was also a temporary lodging for older lamas on their way to the capital, therefore referred to as the "Lama Temple" in ancient times. As China's only Green Tara temple & only Tibetan Buddhism temple in Shaanxi, Guangren Temple was built in 1705 when the Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, 1644-1911, patrolled to Shaanxi, bearing witness to the long-time cultural exchanges & friendship between the Han & Tibetan peoples. The temple features magnificent Buddhist buildings, luxuriant flowers & trees, it is quiet & secluded.

The Guangren Temple was first rebuilt in 1952, after that, its main architecture, including the Mahavira Hall, the Sutras Keeping Hall & the Bodhisattva Hall among others, were brand new. In 1983, it was cited as a National Key Buddhist Monastery in the Han nationality region. The Temple underwent extensive repairs again in 2006 & expanded to the large scale that it is at present, the whole temple covers an area of 1.3 hectares.

Junk style sightseeing boat "Aqua Luna" (張保仔, "Cheung Po Tsai") with the HKCEC in the background. Despite her "old" or "vintage" appearance, "Aqua Luna" was launched in 2006 and thus only 3 years old at the time the photo was taken. The Chinese name of Aqua Luna (張保仔) refers to a famous pirate named Cheung Po Tsai.

Side remark - there are many flickr photos that do show Aqua Luna - but even if the name on the bow is clearly readable, many do wrongly identify her as Duk Ling (Hong Kong's other - and real old - junk)

A speedboat of the Hong Kong Police SDUs racing through Victoria Harbour. The SDU (特別任務連, also Flying Tigers - 飛虎隊) is a parmilitary and secretive sub-division of the Police Tactical Unit.

Note: Originally I thought that's one of the special boats purchased for hunting down smugglers, but thanks to the comment below of namakuvictor I stand corrected - it is SDUs.

Shot just after sunset, from Tsimshatsui, in the background the HKCEC (Convention and Exhibition Centre) in Wanchai - extremely blurred due to the panning of the camera.

Hong Kong skyscrapers seen from HKCEC.

My entry to the official LEGO competition at HKACG 2015, which is shortlisted and exhibited at HKCEC from 24-28/7. The topic is "Ideal Home", and I created my dream house "S Villa" for me and my wife.

The concept comes from the idea of "inner space". When we talk about home, we think about a structure, but what we really want at home is actually an outdoor space, like a little garden or a light well. The design starts from there, with all the rooms surround it. I place the dining room and bedroom, which require a quieter area, away from the street, with the circulation space near the entrance acting like a buffer zone to insulate noise from outside.

The big black box is my studio, in which you can find my desk and personal theater (as my living room has no TV, and the garden is the main focus). The bottom of this box is recessed to allow a car park area. Going up is the bedroom with toilet, and finally a little small swimming pool on the roof top.

The use of colors also has a reason. It uses black, grey and white as the building color scheme, while it is very colorful inside with the decorations and furniture. The idea is that a building focuses on its massing and lines, while the colors come from our lives. With people, the space is then beautiful.

This minimalistic house is "compatible" with the modular building street, and is certainly one of the most thoughtful buildings I created. A house is simple yet functional and practical, and if it is constructed in reality, it is really a liveable space.
