Carnival

Carnivals are strangely able to both be magical and scary... a place of unfathomable potential. It can represent one's desire to run away and start anew... the desire to follow their innermost dreams... and it can also represent all those things left to decay... those dreams let go. The carnival will always play on, even when the audience has moved along.

This shoot took place on my birthday last year... and what a gift it was! We were lucky enough to have our dear friend Desmond Myers in town from Germany for a couple days and he (very reluctantly) agreed to be a model in a shoot idea we had been wanting to do for a while. Throw into the mix that Lilia was able to be our marionette and we were good to go. As with all of our shoots, one thing evolved into another and before you knew it - Sarah & Dani were circus members as well! Mind you, I still have hopes to do a true "Carnivale"-inspired shoot (because we LOVED that show), this will definitely hold me over and will probably lead us toward our own spin/vibe... which is ultimately what "inspired by" should be anyways - not full on copying by any means!

(Many batches--both clear and in many colors--of tiny machine-cut gelatin "windowpanes" [aka "clearlight"] and gelatin pyramids were made. The excess [edges] from each sheet after it was poured and cut were saved in a oxygen-free place that was absolutely dark and VERY cold, and then later they were dissolved and combined to make the above. Each of the resulting machine-cut gelatin tiles contained a mix of 14 different batches of LSD. When I ate these tiles, they seemed to give me access to a very interesting and unique state of consciousness...)
