The bluffs of the upper Mississippi River Valley loom in the background as Canadian Pacific local H20 hustles itself east at Donehower, MN; headed for River Junction and ultimately La Crosse, WI.
Sporting ragged Delaware & Hudson paint, 7304 started life as a Lehigh Valley unit before going to the D&H after the creation of Conrail in 1976 and after a span of time, the unit ended up with the CP after CP purchased the D&H in 1991, when it and two other units got the D&H “lighting stripe” paint scheme (7303 & 7312). The only one of the other units still has the D&H paint is 7303 ( I think?); 7312 was repainted in CP colors after a rebuild.

The daily CP H20, complete with a pair of ex-SOO units, both now wearing CP paint, rounds the bend east of Lake City along the Mississippi.

Leading the way with CP 4443 (ex-SOO 4443) and trailing unit CP 6221 (ex-SOO 6021), this was the previous day's power duo for the northbound run on H19.
Pulling ahead to shove into the siding at Minnesota City to clear for trains #8 (EB Empire Builder) and 198 that are quickly approaching, H20's lead locomotive suffers a major failure causing the former Rock Island GP40 to shut down.
