Gyumri is an urban municipal community and the second largest city in Armenia, serving as the administrative centre of Shirak Province in the northwestern part of the country.
The 1988 Armenian earthquake, also known as the Spitak earthquake occurred on December 7 at 11:41 local time with a surface wave magnitude of 6.8 and a maximum MSK intensity of X (Devastating). The shock occurred in the northern region of Armenia and destroyed Spitak and Gyumri cities.

Als ich nach Tilk fuhr, hielt ich Ausschau für Stellen für den Zug 686 nach Gyumri. Es fiel mir ein entspannter Platz bei Aragatsavan auf, mit einer Bank und Tisch, um die Zeit totzuschlagen. Als ich den Zug bereits sah, dachte sich ein Hirte, dass er mit seiner Schaf- und Kuhherde noch über die Gleise laufen müsste. Ich sah die Kollision bereits in meinem Kopf, aber die Tiere waren schnell genug um den Gleisübertritt vor der Durchfahrt des 20 Minuten verspäteten ÐП2Д zu beenden.

A 2 város között naponta 3 pár személy, valamint 1-1 pár gyors és éjszakai vonat közlekedik. Ezzel ez az ország legforgalmasabb vasútvonala.
