Upper wings of this medium sized butterfly with elongated forewings. The upper surface of the wings is bright orange with black markings. The forewing cell contains three black-rimmed white spots. These butterflies are migrating south to escape wintry weather.
My neighbor, without realizing, has the most wonderful array of flowers that attract butterflies. exico, Central America, West Indies, and parts of South America). Today this lovely Gulf Fritillary was feasting there. The underside of the wings are brownish/orange with elongated silvery white spots. Taken in Cancun on the Gulf many many moons ago, we had just spend a week travelling around the Yucatan peninsula.
