Nodes or spiral vortex's? I realized I posted this one already processed with the Canon DPP software and this one with Apple Aperture, The beginning of the Groundhog day aurora show!

a dramatic show on groundhog day, the western arc seen here is a solo arc with green around the base and a red top beside Andromeda galaxy, the meteor is low centre. If you compare this shot to my previous you can seen the western arc has moved across Andromeda in a couple minutes

The groundhog predicted an early spring here in Ottawa. Right now we’re being hit by another big snowstorm and I’m not very optimistic about the prediction. I haven’t been able to take many photos with the frigid temps and cold this winter so I’ll be digging into my older files for a while.

Here’s hoping this little gosling will bring some luck and is taking his first tentative step forward into spring!

Have a great weekend Flickr friends. Tina and the Puglets xo

I would like to thank all of you that have taken the time to view and comment on my photos, it is very much appreciated.

Can't say I've ever had a groundhog at the ready but this guy made an appearance on the hillside on a bright summer Connecticut day. He was combing the ground underneath a mulberry tree for berries.

I'm sure he is supporting Punxsutawney Phil's prediction of an early Spring for 2020! ...we can only hope...

Thank you for your visits and conversation!

Gregory Groundhog enlisted the help of his little buddy to help him practice casting his shadow for his big day.

I don't know why Gregory wants to cast his shadow since no one in the forest wants Winter to last six more weeks. Of course, I have no idea what he is drinking in that cup.

Thanks for visiting!

This is Seymour, mascot of the Washington State Museum in Tacoma, WA. He was in the donation box when we were there, but travels around the state and to other museums encouraging people to "see more." I think he's actually a marmot and not a woodchuck/groundhog - but that's close enough, right!

Happy Groundhog Day 2023!

*******************************************************************************

February 2 - "Candlemas"-is a magical weather date.

The rule "Basks the badger in the week of the Candlemas, he remains four weeks in the hole" is true in most cases!

At the German-speaking immigrants in Pennsylvania, where there are no badgers, a similar winter sleeper, common, diurnal and easily observed Groundhog was the objective of the weather control

Well, everywhere the is a "groundhog" that will predict whether we have an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Folklore says if he sees his Shadow: If the groundhog emerges from his hole on a clear day and sees his shadow, he will retreat and there will be six more weeks of wintry weather or, if he emerges from his burrow and does NOT see his shadow, then early spring weather is right around the corner!

With that, we here in Plevna Ontario have our predictor of early spring or more winter - Silly Squirrel ! (Not really I just made that up LOL)

Seen here, he is emerging from the "hole he has made in the snow" by the Manitoba Maple in our yard and, as it is a dull grey day there was NO SHADOW. Therefore, if we follow that folklore and nonsense then, according to Plevna's very own Silly Squirrel it's official! Early SPRING!!! One can only hope LOL

I may not always get to "thank you" or comment back on a comment that you might leave here on my image but, just know each comment is read and very much appreciated.

Will there be six more weeks of winter or will we have an early spring? I guess only Punxsutawney Phil knows :-) Here a family of groundhogs are posing nicely for me.

Do you think Punxsutawney Phil will come out and see his shadow today? That's right woodchuck-chuckers - it's Groundhog Day!

I'm predicting 20th March for the first day of spring this year! ;)

Previously unpublished shot from 2nd February 2018. Enjoy!

BUT hang on to your toques 'cos it's -15c as far as I can see!

He's still waiting, nothing much to add to yesterday's post apart from he decided to wear his hat today.

The 'groundhog' definitely saw its shadow ... we still have a meter or more of snow on the ground although the daytime temperatures are finally going above zero. C'mon Spring! Full disclosure: this photo was taken last winter but I haven't been out to capture our late winter as yet! :)

The National Geographic Society once studied the groundhog and found him right only one out of every three times.

Not Punxsutawney Phil.. but a worthy stand-in I may surmise. This one captured on the outskirts of Ely township, northern Minnesota. In Summer of 2019.

Happy Ground Hog day - Pinky has her red umbrella just in case it rains or she wants to keep his shadow from being seen so Spring can happen :D

This is a photograph of my neighbor.... the groundhog taken in Kansas City Missouri. I have learned that groundhogs LOVE my apples, pears they are very fast and have no trouble climbing trees and fences. They are also very observant!

These two Alpine Marmots wish you a happy Groundhog Day ♥️

I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life.

Groundhog (Marmota monax) proclaiming no shadow. This picture is from last Nov. There's no shadow today either with falling temperatures and freezing rain, sleet, and snow in the forecast belying yesterday's 60s
