This is (now) my local crag, and the place my dear old Dad first took me climbing 14 years ago. I often pop up for sunset because it's frustratingly hard to photograph, and I'm never happy with my images!
This made me laugh happy though. Incredible how far we've come in a matter of months:

Millstone Grit is the name given to any of a number of coarse-grained sandstones of Carboniferous age which occur in the British Isles. The name derives from its use in earlier times as a source of millstones for use principally in watermills. Geologists refer to the whole suite of rocks that encompass the individual limestone beds and the intervening mudstones as the Millstone Grit Group. (Wiki)
The area adjoining this above Rochdale is known as Blackstone Edge.
It's cold, raining, and I'm waiting for a train to show.
But how often do you get to stand on a cobbled road over an ancient bridge, in gritty countryside?

I love the geology of this bit of coast just south of Aberystwyth (Aberystwyth Grit Group) and the hearty plants in the vicinity are a delight.

It’s grandchild minding time and I have two choices To send Carla on the train to Derbyshire and mope at home or grit my teeth and attempt the drive. I’ve decided on the later, if I don’t try I never know. Hopefully when I get back and get to eventually see the NHS MSK I can be referred to get some scans much needed to get to the root cause of my issues. So I leave you with a wave and wish me luck :-)

This photograph was taken while I was in Ukraine researching for a project about the nuclear catastrophe Chernobyl.
At the end of L&N’s steep Merna Spur, Loyall Shifter C633-01 shoves their first cut of SCE&G empties under JRL Coal’s “Creech” batch loadout. To the right of the 564 is the Mary Helen Coal Corporation, built in 1919 and later doubled as the town post office. ‘Downtown’ Mary Helen. Ky is easily one of the coolest places Dad and I have ever spent a couple hours.

The Bride Stones
Near Todmorden, West Yorkshire
Located on the moors between Burnley and Todmorden are the Bride Stones. An outcrop set of mill stone grit rocks weirdly carved by the wind of countless ages
First described in local deeds as early as 1491 there are a great number of severely weathered boulders all round here, many like frozen rock giants haunting a magical landscape. The modern lore ascribes the stones to be dedicated to Bride, goddess of the Brigantian people.

Wet road after the storm, then when the sky cleared before dawn the rain water froze leaving black ice. Not good for driving when applying the brakes doesn't slow you down!
Only grit is put on roads here as salt causes cars to rust.
This location was used as the home of character Mattie Ross in the opening and closing scenes of the 1969 production of "True Grit." Why they thought anyone would think the San Juan Mountains of Colorado looked like anywhere in Arkansas is a mystery to me. The owner restored these buildings in honor of the 50th anniversary of the movie.
Blackstone Edge
Millstone Grit is an informal term for gritstones which are found in Pennines and the Peak District. These sediments were laid down in the Paleozoic era, in the Carboniferous period, about 360 million to 300 million years ago. Gritstone is a hard, coarse grained, siliceous sandstone, the name is given to sandstones which are quarried for building material. British gritstone was used for millstones to mill flour, to grind wood into pulp for paper and for grindstones to sharpen blades.
