Drying grain in near 0° temperatures in the snow can be an almost spooky experience...until you get the propane bill. Then it's just plain horrifying! LOL
Day 51 of Project 365/2021 (Saturday, February 20 - 3rd consecutive daily photo): Grain dryers dominate this farmstead on Galien-Buchanan Road in Buchanan Township, Berrien County, Michigan.
A slight reworking, more contrast.
This was made the same night as my other grain dryer image. I was going through some of my older images, and selected a few to re-process, this was one of them.
The shadows on the building are evidence of the beautiful, hard light. A gradient on the grain dryer draws the eye to the contrast of the escape.
This is another that is better when viewed large.
I had only had my camera eighteen days when I made this photo. I have two architectural photos previous to this one that I was proud to make, but this one takes the cake.
I have used several titles for this photo, including The Future?, and the slightly related Bigger. Better?
I especially enjoy how the guy wires emanate from a tie behind the shed, and crescendo to the right, into the huge grain dryers; the inclusion of the guy wires near the top of the frame renders a great feeling of connectivity. This is probably my favorite architectural photo creation thus far.
This must be viewed large to enjoy the full experience.

One of the local grain elevators has had to start storing grain on the ground since the bins are already full.
T-Shaped corn dryer, Sherborne, Gloucestershire.
A community archaeological excavation directed by Tony Roberts of Archeoscan has discovered a T-shaped corn dryer.
This type of corn dryer is primarily associated with the Roman period many similar ones have been found elsewhere. This particular example is larger than most corn dryers. There have been no finds from within or around the corn dryer to suggest a date for it.
The corn dryer would work with a fire at the the open end of the shaft of the T, the warm air drawn through the T then rising through a floor on which grain/corn had be placed - drying it out.
The site is on part of the Sherborne Estate which is owned by the National Trust.

A few years ago I got a great deal on a Bachman Silver Series depressed flat car. I also had a Walthers grain drying kit sitting aroud as well and thought it would make an intersting load. The tie downs are actually wire used in jewelry making and is stranded, so it looks like stranded cable. Pretty cool stuff.

The unusual grain dryer at Preston Mill, near East Linton, East Lothian, Scotland. It is a really quirky building.
This paved driveway in front of my grandparents' farm house used to be gravel.
When I was a young boy riding in the back seat of our 1977 Plymouth Volare with my two brothers, at night when we would finally arrive here from Flint (about a two-hour drive), I was often awakened by the sound of the tires crunching on the gravel, signalling that we were finally here.
Grandpa would help us bring our things in, and Grandma would give my brothers and me a glass of lemonade (made with NW Ohio well water - blech) before tucking us in for the night.
I could never sleep during that first night here. I was just so excited to be here at the farm with my beloved grandparents.
My aunt, uncle and two cousins lived in the actual town of Malinta (a ten minute drive from the farm), so often they would come over the next day, if we weren't scheduled to go over there, first. The Colt Vista in this picture meant that they were over that day.
