You’ve read the KU common book, “The Center of Everything,” now meet author Laura Moriarty, a KU alumna, assistant professor, and Lawrence resident.
Moriarty came to KU for college, but she returned because of her KU experience. Although she received her undergraduate degree in social work from KU, it was here Moriarty discovered her love for creative writing after competing in the English department’s annual creative writing contest. “I’d loved writing that story, shaping and re-shaping it. After that, I was hooked,” said Moriarty.
After graduating, Moriarty moved to New England, but she returned after selling her first book. “I missed Lawrence. It feels like home,” she said. “Lawrence is where I’ve met most of my favorite people. It sometimes feels like kind of a magical place to me, which may sound weird, but there it is.”
