Shawn Mendes - Wonder

An aerial view looking east at golden hour along Lady Bird Lake toward the Rainey Street Historic District in the southeast corner of downtown where the sky is filled with construction cranes. Rainey Street, a sleepy residential area whose houses were renovated into bars and restaurants earlier this century, is now is the booming site of hotel, residential, and commercial high-rises and skyscrapers, including the Waterline, Austin's first super-tall scheduled to be completed in 2026.
The building along the left side of this photo is Block 185, soon to become the new Austin office of Google. Also seen here are the First Street Bridge (near) and Congress Avenue Bridge (far) crossing Lady Bird Lake, a reservoir of the Colorado River.
The Congress Avenue Bridge is home to the world's largest urban bat colony. At dusk each night from around mid-March to early November, people come to see the bats from the bridge, from the sides of the river and from boats. Although it is a little hard to see from this distance, the deck of the Congress Avenue Bridge is crowded with people waiting for bats to emerge from under the bridge to blanket the sky as they forage for food.

Une série sur le guêpier. Un oiseau coloré qui nous rend visite chaque année pendant 3 mois, de mai à mi-août.
C'est toujours un grand plaisir de lui consacrer quelques photographies.
Bonne journée.

A series on the bee-eater. A colorful bird that visits us every year for 3 months, from May to mid-August.
It is always a great pleasure to devote some photographs to him.

I had hoped to get an image of this river otter with my Nikon DSLR. I took this with my Google Gigapixel 9 phone and it is not what I'm used to, BUT I do like it. I took this in January and I've looked for this otter many many times along the Lake Trail in the park since, but no luck. I took probably 50 shots and the rain was pouring on me, the dog, and the husband. Both the dog and the husband remained patient through the entire process.
The otter came up at the dam and followed us as we moved around the peninsula getting on logs and doing the cutest poses. It was like a photographer's dream and I only had my cell phone due to the horrible weather. Part of the lake was frozen over and a cold rain started while we were at the furthest distance from our car.
I took this with my cellphone because I had a 500mm Prime lens on my Nikon and it wouldn't work. I asked this fisherman for permission to photograph him, he was extremely nice and cooperative. I told him he was a perfect model with all that equipment hanging off him for a trout fisherman and those sunrays and fog would be a big bonus. Not the resolution of a DSLR but I LIKE IT. I hope to see him again and give him a copy of this image. I've seen him many times before in this spot. It is worth enlarging just to see his vest of goodies, fishing net on his back, scissors near the fish and more. He was prepared and got there early ahead of the crowd.
I took this on June 29. I had a print made and gave it to him today 10/3. I had been carrying it in the car in case we saw him again. He was pleased.
The hurricane about this time last year wiped out part of this bridge when a huge old tree fell across it; it has been repaired. This island wildlife refuge is now full of piled up downed humongous old trees that fell during the hurricane. The ground was saturated before the hurricane even came and the wind took down many of the older trees.
For Day 2 of the #thoughtsofwinter photography challenge I flash back to 2010. Jim Salge Photography wanted to hike up Wildcat Ski Resort to get something called "Alpine-glow." I agreed but I have to admit I had to Google what this Alpine-glow was and what exactly I was looking for once there. The hike was easy, the sunrise was great and I got my first few morning Alpine-glow shots. I then learned skiing down after a photo shoot is so much better and rewarding than hiking down. On the way down, we paused and I got this shot. While I got several great shots that day, I liked this one the most for the splash of red against the shadows of Mt. Washington et al across the way.
Captured at Aldbrough leisure park nature reserve.

Our chicks had their trackers fitted about 6 weeks ago and to our great excitement we have been able to get some downloads from them. At the moment we are only doing these weekly but the patterns have already shown how the chicks are developing in confidence. This map is the one of Big Yan, 12’s first tentative flights after fledging on July 20th. For much of the time he was in the nest but the orange lines show us he went up and sat on the open fellside above and down to a tree on the other side of the A592. So, for the first time we were able to know exactly where a chick had gone when he flew out of our sight. What amazing technology! (Can you spot Bassenthwaite Lake at the top left with the Derwent River leading out of it? And the main road and forest roads?)
