A fruit orchard full of golden oranges, rows of fig trees just coming into leaf in the foreground and whitewashed houses with red roofs and lacy chimneys in the background.
Nowadays, the Algarve’s image is associated with citrus fruit orchards, but in dry and sunny land many fig trees, almond trees and carob trees grow and constitute the “dryland orchard”.
With large areas of fig trees the Algarve exported dry figs for centuries, with high impact on the regional economy. [...]. According to the Tora the fig is one of the seven foods which grow in the Promised Land. According to the Bible Adam covered himself with the fig leaf.
The citrus fruit orchards are widely spread in the Algarve.
The sweet orange was brought in the 16th century from China to Europe by the Portuguese. They are called “portuguesas” in various countries, especially in the Balkans. Google
After being shut out the night before by a stubborn storm that refused to break up over Jasper National Park, we had our fingers crossed as we headed back to Maligne Lake the following morning. We all seemed pretty happy with our blue hour shots, but as sunrise approached, it really began to look like we might not see the sun at all that day. I think we had all resigned ourselves to the fact that we were looking at another completely gray day when I glanced up an noticed the faintest wisp of pink on one of the clouds. Sure enough, the sun broke through just enough to throw some fleeting color across the the clouds that were continuing to roll in from the West. I think Tom and I are the ones in our group who really have a problem standing still during moments like this. Both of us went off in all directions at once, and both of us had two camera bodies for just such an occasion. Leaving my D800 on the tripod, I took off running with my D750 and cranked up the ISO a bit while I looked for other comps in addition to what I was getting down at the lakeside.
As I was racing back to my spot in front of the boat house, this puddle caught my eye and I spent the next few minutes trying to shoot if from several different angles with the 14-24. There have been times where I have doubted my run and gun approach, but I usually reserve it for situations where I feel like I've got a decent shot on the tripod before setting of to see what I might be missing maybe just a few steps away. If I had stayed camped out where I was I would have missed this particular shot along with quite a few others. We ALL gave in to temptation two nights before when we had a perfectly good view of the late afternoon sun up at the Opabin Prospect, but curiosity got the better of us and we full out RAN back up the trail to get more shots of the larches behind us. So I think there is something to be said for making sure you KEEP MOVING once you believe you have a decent shot...especially when you might only have another few minutes of good light.
This being said, it helps to be able to TRUST the guys who you are shooting next to. Maybe leaving the camera on the tripod while you run like a maniac in all directions should be reserved for those times when you actually know the people around you...or you might not have a camera when you get back. :)

Well just look who I saw today !!
I am going along walking to the shops and this character was just sat there at the side of the road taking in the view . Not wanting to look obvious I just took a shot from the hip pointing blindly and I was so surprised I actually got the shot and reasonably sharp and ok exposed . You can see the full shot in the first comment box .
I wonder if I might turn into one of those blurry messes one sees on Google Street View ??

This location was one of the main reasons that I went to New Zealand this time. I have wanted to shoot here for a long time and I loved being here. You may recognise the seastacks from the famous image taken inside one of the caves as you open Windows 10.
Its location is very remote being near Puponga right at the very top of the south Island. There is only one way in and out and that's through what they call the Takaka Hill - well its certainly not a hill and I had to drive it through rain and fog and I have to say it was rather sketchy and I was very glad that it finally came to an end. When you google it, it tells you that its very dangerous and I can now see why.
To get to this beach its about a 20 minute walk from the carpark through a gorgeous farm scattered with sheep and 4 steeples that you have to cross over.
Once I got to the beach the view took my breath away. All the effort to get here was worth it. There are caves, sea stacks called the Archway Islands and there are even seals swimming and sunbaking! what a location. I also timed it perfectly with the tide to get great reflections too.

On the first full day of my Autumn In The Alps trip I had a tough decision to make. Do I sit around my hotel in Munich and hope that British Airways calls me with news of my missing bag...or do I head out with the clothes on my back and live like a hobo for the next 8 days? After spending 20 minutes getting nowhere with the nice young lady from India, my decision was clear. In spite of British Airways' best attempts to derail my trip (bumping me to a later flight, losing my bag and then refusing to give me any information for four days) I ignored the fact that I had no luggage and was now missing the big tripod, and headed to the Dolomites with nothing but my camera gear and the back up Benro that I had brought for just such an occasion.
By late afternoon, I was pulling into the Val di Funes and setting off for St John's Chapel. The few hours that I spent in this valley will stay with me for the rest of my life. After shooting around St John's, I headed up the steep hillside behind me and found another 20 or so photographers setting up for the sunset. Not wanting to be part of the pack, I headed further up the hill, and then just sat....and soaked it all in. The clinking of the cow bells. The church bells ringing out over the valley for Sunday evening mass. I dodged a couple of tractors driven by stern looking weather beaten farmers who seemed to roll their eyes at the small army of photographers. I couldn't help but wonder....do you ever get used to it? No matter how hard my day was as a farmer....to look up and see that view...in all directions....would you ever want to leave?
I certainly didn't, but it was a long drive to Slovenia and it was already getting dark. Reluctantly, I packed up and headed back down the mountain.

Several times a year, I visit this small oak tree and love the different perspectives and portraits I get from it. I'm sure it is my favorite in the park. I am revisiting all places with my vintage Nikon D200, a 10 MP CCD sensor camera.
(Spanish: Varias veces en el año visito este pequeño roble y lo retrato de diferentes perspectivas y angulos. Muy seguro que es mi favorito en el parque).
