The term 'solstice' derives from the Latin word 'solstitium', meaning 'Sun standing still'. On this day the Sun seems to stand still at the Tropic of Capricorn and then reverses its direction as it reaches its southernmost position as seen from the Earth.
Sometime between 12/20 and 12/23 the shortest day of the year takes place. And, this solstice image I created reminds me about how lucky we all are to experience long and short days. Well, just because.

The collector, for a large outfit, GoodLife Bees, helps pollinate the area to the SE of Mt. Hood; it's cherry nirvana. So, them bees help the process.

Not a history lesson here. .
But, some thoughts.
Symbolism has been around for centuries. Long before you and I were here. And, it will continue long after we are gone. Future generations will pick its new symbol again and again. Past generations will be considered nonessential for current discussion.
One such symbol is the cross. To refresh my memory I used the search term "what does the cross symbolize". There is more knowledge then an entire encyclopedia and left up to our interpretations of course. It was an interesting project. Hanging anyone on a cross for the buzzards next meal is not what I'd consider fun. Sometimes corpses would be on crosses that lined a road into a city.

March 1st is indeed recognized as the meteorological start of spring in some parts of the world, particularly in the northern hemisphere.
But most of us understand spring to be the time when the air becomes lighter, fresher and more invigorating, as we exit winter hibernation and enter a time of renewal, renewal of life, nature and love.
May the inspiration of spring provide a sense of renewal to all of you as we enter springtime and begin to rebuild and renew our lives and communities and our environment.

Collecting our fruit along the roadside coming from Costa Rica on the Interamericana back up to our mountain home in Volcan, Chiriqui, Panama. It's a good inexpensive life. Not complaining over the cost of living, for sure.
