There's a parallel universe out there somewhere in which I did not cut off the tips of his wings. Meh. What can you do. At least it was in focus.
Oh, and I'll add this here b/c I though it was kind of cool (at least to a self-taught Photoshop goob like me): I layered two of Ash's textures on top of the photo, and when using the layer mask on one to lighten the texture on the gull I really didn't like how it also removed the color. Then I remembered how someone has suggested in this thread to use a gaussian blur to remove the texture, so I gave it a whirl and it worked like gangbusters. Try it out sometime if you ever use colored textures.

A shifter out of Danville, WV works the Wells Prep Plant near Van, WV with a gorgeous AC44 and a younger sister GE. The track gradient is really obvious here. The conductor on this job was very friendly. He came and chatted with me and a couple other goobs and made friends with Dakota the railfan pup.
James Schultz Goobs it up as he has a triple with some Deathstar action. Rounding the bend with 145 empties on U788 timing his appearance into the sunset perfectly.
Back when the first few heritage units were just rolling out, the Conrail unit was the first one to roll through NWO leading a loaded coal train bound for Burns Harbor, IN. The well-known shot at Miller City was a must for several, as I can recall at least 10 goobs on hand to get the shot. A chase soon ensued, but this was easily the best of the bunch.

Two years ago, Clark, CAZ and I spent two full days chasing the Bessemer from Conneaut to North Bessemer during fall peak. Not only did the weather cooperate, but so did the trackside "wildlife." A herd of cows graze on the hillside, some checking out the goobs with cameras and some paying no mind, while 9,000 horses roar through the valley below with a loaded ore train for E.T. in Pittsburgh. It doesn't get much better than this.
Off the list...I first saw this building in 2008 but passed upon a shot here to get to the position light signals further south. I had a chance to redeem myself last week. Here Elkhart to Ft Wayne train 366 passes the Goshen Sash & Door Company building that is a real gem. Not sure what it is used for now, but a search revealed that this company had an extensive catalog of doors, windows, and blinds, etc. Supposedly went out of business in 2002 - doing the math that is 133 years in business!.
Sharp eyes will spot another goob standing on his vehicle getting a wide shot....
There were a few posts about this train and taking pictures of it over this past weekend. Even though it was 30 years ago. That started when I got a text from Bill Beecher asking if I was in the picture referenced below. www.flickr.com/photos/family_man_system/55147963846/
Busted. Bill's shot shows the group of us wondering what this goob was doing taking our picture at Blue Island. Was it going to be evidence we were standing right in front of at least 2 No Trespassing signs? And this one shows him getting his camera up to take that shot.
The story goes that a group of us from Cleveland had traveled to Chicago to attend the Indians & White Sox game on 6/29/1996. Other than the game we had a hot railfanning weekend. We did a little Iowa Interstate, made stops at Brighton Park, Roosevelt Road, and Joliet before coming to Blue Island sort of on the way home. We got quite a few trains at Blue Island in a short time including this Wisconsin Central TO45 leaving Barr Yard with an SD45 leader. . We finished the Sunday evening chasing BRC Alcos in East Chicago. Leaving East Chicago when the sun went down made an early morning arrival back in Cleveland. But great evening light on C424's?; sign me up for another late arrival anytime.
So 30 years later, Bill came across the shot he took and recognized a couple of the guys. And asked around to find out the rest. It's understandable he wouldn't recognize some of us. Even my wife didn't think I was in the picture when I first showed it to her. Pretty cool so many years later to have gotten to know Bill and see the picture he took.
Back when the DMIR was fun to goob. Although, even though it's CN now, it's still kinda cool. Here is a shot from Sept 17, 1995 at Proctor, MN. This was when you could stop by the office, check in, and go where ever you wanted as long as you stayed off the equipment. Good times!

This shot was taken on the last night we had the rental house in Kauai...I waited all week for a sunset like this and had so much fun running around the property framing it different ways. I'm a total goob like that.
Headed to the desert in a few hours. No wifi where I'm going so I won't be on here much in the next ten days or so. Happy Thanksgiving in advance..have fun and be safe out there, kids.

Sometimes you don't have the words you want to say to someone. Other times you make yourself sound like a dork,goob or just a idiot while trying to find them. When it comes down to it. As much as I would like to just make myself look like a complete fool. It's good to know that someone just understands what I mean.

I was thinking about posting some more Manitowoc shots but that's been pretty well covered by the rest of the goobs. So here's something a bit different.
WC tac loads scream above a WC local at Valley on the NAPM layout. I'm a member applicant at NAPM and have been enjoying the 18 scale miles of track to run trains around. Yesterday, DanK and I made a run down there to operate his F45 across the layout with some of my power. Kenny also made it down there, and supplied the ore jennys for this shot. It was a good run day.

Having momentarily left the former Soo Line behind, Canadian National Local L519 scoots past the long out of service Rice Lake Interlocking Tower as it makes its way up the Rice Lake Spur to drop a single car off at Shadow Plastics in Rice Lake, WI.
Having been built originally in 1916 to replace a wooden one that burned down the Rice Lake Interlocking tower controlled the crossing of the Chicago & North Western's Altoona to Superior mainline with the Soo Line's Cameron to Reserve branch line. It was manned until the early 1940s at that point it became an automatic interlocking. Fast forward some decades, and Wisconsin Central started operating parts of the original Soo Line (Lake States Transportation) which included the line through Cameron and branch to Rice Lake. The WC operated it till they acquired the C&NW line from Cameron north. With two lines in the area the Soo line was deemed redundant, and the WC tore it up in the early 1990s. In 2001 Canadian National acquired Wisconsin Central, inheriting this.
Also, a big thank you goes to the pair of goobs that connected dots, and laid the ground work to make this a "slam dunk".
Sock is always such a ham and I feel like today's photo really captures the goof ball side of him.
I actually had a different shot for today in mind but just couldn't pass up sharing this goob.

Meet Roscoe, my friend Anne's dog.
He is the sweetest, goofiest guy. Kind of a big 'ole klutz, actually.
But so nice, and worships his mother.
Daybreak finds NS #123 splitting the signals between the small mountain communities of Swannanoa and Black Mountain, NC on the Asheville District's S Line. The dwarf signal protects the eastern end of the small siding that likely doesn't see much activity nowadays. The S Line only has two scheduled through freights and local P87 based in Asheville, which is sad to see on such an awesome piece of railroad made famous by the Old Fort Loops.
It only was a split second when Goober ran straight toward Dweeb. I thought a collision was eminent but the Goob had a plan.
The lone CCKY painted geeps looks on as 4501 storms through Lafayette,GA on the way to Summerville. Normally this spot is a mess of goobs when the steam train comes through but oddly we were the only ones here today.

Southern 3170 leads the ACHS excursion over the Auglaize River bridge north of Uniopolis, OH. I was the first one on the scene, and when I went closer to the bridge to cut down a couple obstructing trees I was swarmed by mosquitos. By the time the train got here, at least 40-50 goobs were on hand. You're all welcome for there not being a nice tree right in the middle of the bridge...
Back-to-back cowls march eastward through the Hinsdale Highlands stop. I still remember...it was a cool Sunday afternoon and I had the day off from my gas station job. I rode the South Shore to Chicago, then caught the BN over to here. High school times were different. Too bad I couldn't have been hanging out with some cheerleaders or other hotties. I was far too much of a goob for that. This was all I got.
