The Goldfish was much more likely to have been a castaway in a retention pond than someone's pet. When removed from a fish bowl and dumped in a large pond or artificial lake, a child's Goldfish can grow this big.
It was dark and beginning to drizzle when this was taken but the Goldfish really stands out in the low light. They must be very easy for Ospreys to spot in the artificial ponds and fake "lakes" of many housing developments.

This morning with the Sun poking in thru our window, our little Goldfish Plant was loving life. As was our kitty basking in the same puddle of sun on the floor !

No, I am not cruel enough to put a goldfish in a glass of food colouring. It is a stock image of a goldfish. But the glass is all mine - not saying much, really. I am not entirely certain how happy I am with this. I could have spent more time on it, perfecting it, but then I could also have saved time by putting a goldfish in a glass. Except that we do not have a goldfish.
Did you know that goldfish do not have eyelids, so they do not close their eyes when they sleep?
Great Blue Heron is still working at ridding the WSU pond of goldfish that were dumped here last year. They are now pretty good sized, so they make a nice meal.

This giant goldfish swims in an aquarium at the entrance of a Chinese restaurant in Eindhoven. For decoration, not to be eaten.
Goldfish live in the warm pond seen in this photo of Pagosa Springs Resort. They have congregated here under the mineral ledge seen on the right side of that photo.
