Escaleras mecánicas para subir al centro histórico de Toledo. Paseo del Recadero

For those that aren't familiar with London this is the Greenwich foot tunnel. It runs under the Thames and connects Greenwich with the Isle of Dogs, leading onto Canary Wharf a mile or two beyond. At both ends of the foot tunnel is a lift plus a set of stairs. I used to know the exact number of steps to get to street level because when I was still working my folding bicycle and I used to go through this foot tunnel twice a day and more often than not one or both of the lifts would be out of service. Not sure how reliable they are these days but what I can say is when I used it on my recent visit it was working just fine. So this is me up against the wall of the lift shooting back through the glass doors towards the tunnel just as the doors have closed.

Long before the fashion for steam punk hit some years ago Richard Rogers designed the Lloyds building in London, more than 40 years ago now. It's all exposed pipes and bare girders, quite wonderful for it's eccentricity and uniqueness. Of course the lifts run up and down on the outside of the building, where else(?), and if you've just nipped off to Starbucks for a coffee, well, the world will be able to see you as you return to your desk!
Peter and Oleg are with Mummy Marian on holiday in the Teutoburgerwald.
While Marian took a break from hiking, Peter and Oleg borrowed one of her hiking boots and went to see the ruin from above.
OLEG:
It's a good idea Peter to borrow one of Mummy Marian's hiking boots and hang it on a balloon. That way we can get a good look at the ruin and have a great view.
PETER:
I always have good ideas Oleg, you know that.
Look how high we're going!!!!
OLEG:
A wonderful view Peter . When you look down everything looks so small.
I wonder how we land safely again.
PETER:
No problem!
I have a safety pin with me. Poke a small hole in the balloon for a soft landing and poke a big hole for a hard landing.
OLEG: (looking very pale)
Just give me a soft landing Peter
Smile on Saturday: Going up
Last year I came across with this brown lizard while it was climbing a tree and it stayed still for the photo.

For the theme 'Going up' in Smile on Saturday
Thanks for taking time to comment and fave my work. I really appreciate it.
Balk, city in Friesland, Netherlands
The history of Balk begins somewhere around the year 1300. The name refers to a bridge over the river Luts, which was actually not much more than a beam at that time. In any case, people settled around this beam, which connected both banks of the Luts. The great period of growth, which makes Balk a beautiful monumental village, was between the fifteenth and eighteenth century with the production of dairy. The butter trade in particular brought about a great economic boost.
I was taking a photo of the fabulous scenery surrounding Civita di Bagnoregio when out of nowhere a cat shot up the wall.

Smile on Saturday: GOING UP
It’s still winter where I live, but spring is definitely in the air! It was mild enough for a winter day the other week to go out, so I went for a walk beneath blue skies and sunshine. Whilst I was out, I came across a smattering of brilliant white that caught my eye. Walking towards it, I discovered that it was a white sakura blossom tree in full bloom, like a beautiful blossom cloud., dropping pretty white petals like tumbling snowflakes on the grass below. The tree was full of happily buzzing bees, but there were also bees buzzing about on the ground below, pollinating clover blooms in the grass. One poor little bee seemed a bit confused and he ended up clinging to a blade of grass, making a slow and steady climb – slow enough for me to take a few photos of him – before he finally flew up and joined other members of his clan amidst the white sakura blossoms above!
The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 24th of August is "going up", and even though I took this macro photograph of this bee for my own delight, I’m equally delighted that it is suitable for the theme this week. I hope you like my choice for this week, and that it makes you smile!
