Air roots of a Marsh Cypress
(These trees usually grow in swampy places, which are under water during certain periods of the year. The air roots, which are sticking out of the water, help to survive during heavy floods.)
The day of our annual shopping and ladies lunch with my sister, our bestie and our Mom. Only no shopping this year. Lunch and a gift exchange today. We have been doing this for almost a dozen years now and it is still a favorite holiday tradition. I got them each one of these little guys for their gift this year. It is always fun shopping for some cute Christmas decorations for them all! So glad my Mom is still able to join us as I know she has always enjoyed being a part of it.

In Norway, the Nisse as they are known bring gifts to children who leave a bowl of porridge for them on Christmas Eve.

Yesterday I was at the Christmas market of manor house Stockseehof. Some magical things were to be admired :-)

Gnomes, originally published in Dutch in 1976 as Leven en werken van de kabouter, then released in English in 1977, is a fiction book written by Wil Huygen and illustrated by Rien Poortvliet.
Gnomes have long been a staple in children's and fairy tales literature. These mythical creatures are often depicted as small, bearded men who live in gardens and forests, and are known for their mischievous behavior.
The history of gnomes in literature dates back to the 16th century, when Paracelsus, a Swiss physician and alchemist, first wrote about "earth elementals" in his work "Liber de Nymphis, sylphis, pygmæis et salamandris et de caeteris spiritibus." He described them as creatures that lived in the earth and were responsible for the growth and fertility of plants. These creatures were later referred to as gnomes by other writers.

Almost a hundred years old.... Our Gnome has always been with us for over forty years... He has been passed down through the family, and yes our own family will look after Him in the future....
This gnome was here when we bought the house over 40 years ago. You never see him move but he does get around. I caught him digging these Halloween gourds out of the ground and tossing them up on the stoop to make a display. I never saw him move, but later he had completed the display in the previous photo and I was well pleased with his work.
My wife finds enjoyment in creating a Gnome village around a Maple tree in our yard. This is one of the characters.

Apparently this is a worry gnome. You're supposed to whisper your worries to it each night and place it under your pillow. I'm not sure what's supposed to happen after that. I bought it as a while back as I thought it would make an easy PoD and unlikely I'll be whispering anything to it. After all I leave my worries on my doorstep and direct my feet on the sunny side of the street.

This is a collection of miniature garden gnomes I discovered on a walk around my neighborhood. It is rather heavily cropped due to my not noticing some not family friendly gnomes off to the left side until I started editing this.
Surveying the newly blooming Phlox, and discussing what annuals to plant in front of them this spring. (Mid-May is when it is safe to plant non-frost hardy plants in my area.)
