I was driving home last week when I encountered this location. I was originally drawn to the reflection in the pond (bottom left) when other details of this location seemed to pop out. I like the variety of things in this photo.

İNG:Located in the south of Çamlıhemşin District, between the valleys formed by the Fırtına and Hala streams, the plateau is located at an altitude of 2032 meters around the forest upper limit. Offering an ideal environment for trekking and resting, the plateaus have a unique civil architectural structure as well as their rich biodiversity. The plateau, which is 15 kilometers from Çamlıhemşin District, is interesting with its original architecture. Its foggy landscapes and authentic wooden houses offer fairy-tale views to the plateau. Accommodation is provided in the plateau houses that serve as pensions in the plateau.

I was coming back from Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park early one Saturday morning when I came across this pond. With no cover around I managed to scare off all the water fowl around. I then waited for the stillness of the pond. We sure do get some amazing skies in Alberta.

Here's a photo of a Orange Tip butterfly resting on some Bluebell's in between the showers today.

This species is one of the earlier butterfly species on the wing, seen in April.

Mating

A male butterfly has several methods of determining whether he has found a female of his own species. One way is by sight. The male will look for butterflies with wings that are the correct color and pattern. When a male sights a potential mate it will fly closer, often behind or above the female. Once closer, the male will release special chemicals, called pheromones, while it flutters its wings a bit more than usual. The male may also do a special "courtship dance" to attract the female. These "dances" consist of flight patterns that are peculiar to that species of butterfly. If the female is interested she may join the male's dance. They will then mate by joining together end to end at their abdomens. During the mating process, when their bodies are joined, the male passes sperm to the female. As the eggs later pass through the female's egg-laying tube, they are fertilized by the sperm. The male butterfly often dies soon after mating.

While shooting some macro wild flowers I came across this feather caught on a barbed wire fence. I often think of barbed wire fences as a deterrent for larger animals such as cattle, but now I see, ...even the birds aren't safe.

It amazes me to think that the subtle, slow moving and constant forces of nature are seemingly always at work. Take an old railway track like this one where the force of nature has bent and changed the shape of this railway track. Simply Amazing.

Like I have said several times on my posts, "I am a morning person!" I love to get up early on days off to go drive around the county as the sun rises on a new day. This photo is from Dry Island Buffalo Jump Provincial Park. It is the Red Deer River and just moments before sunrise.

Pamukkale, which has been used as a spa since the second century BC, literally means “cotton castle” in Turkish.

The travertine features have their origins in the shifting of a fault in the valley of the Menderes river (between here and Denizli). As the fault shifted, very hot springs with a very high mineral content (notably chalk) arose at this location. Apart from the slightly radioactive minerals, the calcium and hydrogen carbonate react to create calcium carbonate (also known as travertine) and limestone. This is what gives Pamukkale its whiteness and created the pools. The Travertines of Pamukkale are a set of bizarre calcium cliff bathing pools overlooking the town of Pamukkale.

Many years ago, Greeks and Romans discovered the curative properties of the warm mineral springs that are found in Pamukkale. Predictably, these springs attracted droves of tourists to the place, but not only to seek therapeutic comforts. But also to see the magnificence of the hardened calcium bicarbonate cascading over the cliffs.

Known as the Cotton Cliffs, it is a famous and stunning calcium structure that earned a UNESCO World Heritage Site title in the 1970s.

World heritage site

Pamukkale is recognized as a World Heritage Site together with Hierapolis. Hierapolis-Pamukkale was made a World Heritage Site in 1988. It is a tourist attraction due to this status and its natural beauty.

The underground volcanic activity which causes the hot springs also forced carbon dioxide into a cave, which was called the Plutonium, which here means “place of the god Pluto”. This cave was used for religious purposes by priests of Cybele, who found ways to appear immune to the suffocating gas.

Protecting the thermal waters

The hotels built in the 1960s were demolished as they were draining the thermal waters into their swimming pools and caused damage to the terraces. The water supply to the hotels is restricted in an effort to preserve the overall site and to allow deposits to regenerate. Access to the terraces is not allowed and visitors are asked to follow the pathway.

The crystal clear waters of Upper Waterton Lakes. This is in Waterton National Park in Canada looking south to Glacier National Park in the USA.

English

The Puerta de Alcalá ("Alcalá Gate") is a Neo-classical monument in the Plaza de la Independencia ("Independence Square") in Madrid, Spain. It stands near the city center and several meters away from the main entrance to the Parque del Buen Retiro. The square is bisected by Alcalá Street, although the street itself doesn't cross through the monument, and it is the origin of the Alfonso XII, Serrano and Olózaga streets. Its name originates from the old path from Madrid to the nearby town of Alcalá de Henares.

Madrid in the late 18th century, still remained a somewhat drab villa in appearance, surrounded by medieval walls. Around the year 1774, king Charles III commissioned Francesco Sabatini to construct a monumental gate in the city wall through which an expanded road to the city of Alcalá was to pass, replacing an older, smaller, gate which stood nearby. It was inaugurated in 1778.
