We started making our advent garlands to make something different for our own kids at Christmas. The chocolate doors, little drawers, and felt mini stockings are cute and all but they just didn't fit with our own unique tastes.
We string the boxes on ribbon, floral garlands, and light strings. The boxes are little pyramid shapes that open up like a flower. We customize the tags, but mostly they are done countdown style with the numbers going from one to the end (most are 12 day and 24 days sets, but we also do 14 day ones for Valentines and such).
I love the origami, its really soothing and fun to do. I think next to the fairy wings we make the advent garlands are my favorite to make.

I have a drawer in my studio filled with little Sizzix die cut boxes that I just can't throw away. I decided to use them as little gift boxes for an upcoming dinner party with my girl friends. I filled the boxes with candy and little things, attached beautiful tags with my friends' names written on them, and hung them with ribbon from branches I took from my yard. I arranged the branches in one of my favorite vases and used it as the centerpiece for our dinner party.

This was a simple vanilla sponge and orange buttercream cake, and I covered it to look like a gift box. I took the opportunity to practice making a fondant bow. Just enough to make one large mug of awesome Hot Chocolate in each cone. Just snip the bottom to put the Hot Chocolate into your cup. Stir until throughly mixed then add the Marshmallows, Chocolate Chips and White Chocolate Chips on top!

No cutting or glueing necessary in making these boxes, only folding a square sheet of paper each for the base and the lid.
I made 70 of these for my nieces wedding in April - each from different decorative paper and topped with a wedding cake topper or flower.
Each box was filled with chocolates and sparkling confetti.
